What is Wicca?
Religion and faith is not the same thing. Faith is your personal belief and relationship with our Creator and religion is the form or way in which we practice our faith.
Faith = your belief and personal connection to our creator
Religion = The way we practice our faith
You do not have to practice a religion to have faith. Some people choose to believe in our creator but not practice any form of religion. There are also some people who do not have faith or believe in our creator. These people are called atheist. It means does not have faith in a higher being or creator.
Wicca is a religion in which we practice our faith. There are many religions in the world. Some are Christian religions such as, Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Baptist and United to name a few.
Christian religions all worship Jesus Christ as the son of God and God as a male. Non-Christian religions include Wicca, Hinduism, Buddhism and Shamanism is among many.
In Wicca we pray to both God and Goddess. Although it sounds like two different spiritual beings they are actually one. You see spiritual beings are not male or female, they are both! The male side is the strong masculine side of our creator, and the female side is soft, nurturing and feminine. And as one spiritual being us as Wiccans focus on the feminine side of our creator which is the Goddess.
Wicca is not spells, rituals and potions. It is a way of life. The way you choose to live. You cannot say you are Wiccan and then lie to your parents or steal from the local store. That is not how you live life with Wicca. When you choose Wicca as your way of life it means you have to add it to everything you do in your daily life.
Living like a Wiccan is a transition, a change that will take time. But as you progress day by day, the way of life will come naturally to you!
The Wiccan Rede is a code of behavior. Do as you will, but in harming none.
This means you are given free will to do anything you want, but you have to do without harming anything or anybody including yourself. Harm does not only mean hurt physically. It could include a person’s feelings, property, being bothersome or annoying, teasing an animal. There are so many ways to harm without even touching someone or something.
The best way to know what is harmful and what is not is to think of it this way; Put yourself in the place of your target. If it bothers or harms you, it would bother or harm someone else.
In other religions the Wiccan Rede could be translated in to the Golden rule; Do unto others as you would have done unto you.
Being kind hearted and good is always the best policy in being Wiccan Wicca is positive and goodness. In your heart you must feel positive and good when practicing. Wicca is an earthly religion where our work is to help not harm. We do not cast hexes or curses, we do not make people like or love us or try to control their free will. Our aim is to bring goodness, positive energy and a natural way of life to be the best spiritual people we can be.
In Wicca we learn about angels and how they help us and how we can call upon them. We learn about spirit guides. These are spiritual beings that help us along our life path or direct us when we go astray.
When you live the Wiccan way of life you change how you look at things. When things don’t go your way, instead of getting angry and stomping off, you understand it was not meant to be at that time. You will learn when you push the issue and get your way when you should have accepted how it was, it was not as you expected or less than you wanted. If you had the patients and waited, what you wanted would most likely be more spectacular than you imagined.
