For my friends and family that supported my writing from the beginning
1. The Society
The Society is a secret government agency, forged by the Coalition, to monitor and protect the Realm from supernatural threats that continually plague the security of its sentient citizens. Among those particular threats, is a small percentage of the Realm's Human populace, who possess amazing abilities, called Wielders, who were once believed to be the descendants of the Starfallen, Gods who came down from the heavens and advanced the sentiments of the Realm. Wielders have the ability to command the elements such as fire, water, and earth. Centuries ago, the Realm looked at Wielders as threats to their safety, and came together to hunt them down, during a period of time known as The Crusades,
a dark time in the Realm’s history, where many Wielders were murdered.
Many Wielders were forced into hiding and suppressed their abilities out of fear that they, or their families, would be victims of the genocide committed by the Wielder hunters, who called themselves Deicides; until all Wielders were thought to have been wiped out.
Wielders reemerged during the time of the Great War. A Human purist
movement, led by the Swaxi Party, declared war against the newly formed Coalition. Zommer, the Swaxi leader, proclaimed that the Human race should be the only race in control of the Realm due to their superiority over all the other sentient species that called the Realm home. With an unrelenting war spreading across the Realm that pitted Human against Sentient, as well as, Human against Human, a handful of Wielders, who had been practicing their abilities in secret, offered the Coalition, their aid in ending the war, in exchange for sanctuary.
Seeing no end to the bloodshed, the Coalition, now, the governing body of the Realm, formed the Society, and placed powerful Wielders as its leaders. With the help of the Society, the Swaxi movement was silenced, and the Wielder community was protected and kept secret, under the watchful eye of the Society.
In the time after the Great War, the Society tracked down other Wielders, young and old, and registered them along with the power they commanded. The Society helped them control their abilities by placing them in different programs such as the Academy where Wielders were able to earn their primary and secondary certifications, which, upon completion, allowed them to study in the Realm, abroad. Wielders had to prove they were in control over of their powers before being allowed to pursue opportunities outside the secret, Society governed cities, located in Manifest's underground networks. Some Wielders stayed within the Society and became teachers or Agents, the secret protectors of the Realm. Other wielders chose to live free lives outside the Society.
Because of the Society's secretive
