The Children of Nataar - Diaz Germaine Coleman

    PROLOGUE

    {BRUJA}

"I thought that she was just another one of the millions of Nataar’s children, which I was given the liberty to hunt down, and slaughter by the dawns early light. To me she looked no different than the others… I was wrong, and sadly mistaken.

That—‘Thing… turned out to be a nightmare. She was a living weapon of immense and unpredictable power. Her life-force energy and strength were like nothing that I had ever encountered…

The horror that I felt when she looked at me was like—

I cannot put my fear into words, for my tongue dares me to do so… Why do I fear her? It was her eyes that frightened me the most. They burned through me, exposing my deepest fears of death. How could a child possess that much power, and control it? I am the queen of darkness… , even The Great Demon himself has bowed and trembled in my presence, so why am I so afraid of this child?

My fear turned into sheer terror when I realized that she was not alone. I could hear an infant’s cries coming from behind the girl when I first confronted her.

She had it wrapped and tied to her back, in what appeared to be a torn piece of one of their mother’s royal robes. Imagine my trepidation when I realized that the girl only possessed a portion of this terrible and horrifying power. The bulk of it was being generated by the little monster that she had tied to her back. They were the last of their royal blood line… Chiyah, the young warrior queen of Nataar and her little sister Shayah, the princess, fought as one; sharing each other’s energy in perfect balance, and harmony.

I did not stand a chance against them. They killed… No, murdered me seven years ago on this very day.

. . . I was murdered, but not destroyed… for if Lasoon lives, then I shall also live. Death has no dominion over me, and I have returned for my revenge! I have longed for this day. I have fueled my dark heart with hate and malice against you and your little kingdom, Chiyah… And I am going to drain it dry.

I will possess Nataara’s great life-force energy… I have something special planned for you, my young warriors!! This time I will not fail!"

    {SHAYAH}

"Monsters… ! I should have known. Why do I always have to fight monsters? I wish that I could grow up like a normal princess—Oh yeah, I am Nataarian, and so this is growing up normal. Oh well, I guess that I am going to have to kill them all. But I wonder why they are always so huge, smelly, and disgusting? Not only that; why is it always so many of them? I do not know or care, I guess…

To be honest I kind of enjoy being out numbered by my enemies. It gives me the chance to prove to Chiyah that I am not afraid."

    {CHIYAH}

"I promised mother that I would raise, and protect Shayah with my life. Just as I have vowed to lay my life down to protect Nataar and my people.

I am Queen, and guardian of this majestic planet. To rule over Nataar is my birthright, and I will use all that is in me to keep it peaceful… even if it means destroying Endocrum, Lasoon, and those strangers that I have allowed to settle in my kingdom. I hope for their sake that my kindness does not be taken for weakness. Yes, the humans did obliterate the mighty Endocrumian war armada, but we will not be so easily defeated. The humans will need more than their little mechanical suits to have victory over me, and those that will fight at my side. A war with us would mean extinction for them."

    {TRALIAN}

"The queen of Nataar my foot, Chiyah is not strong enough to lead us. I am also of the royal bloodline, and just as powerful as she is. So why will the kingdom not give me the respect that I deserve?

Why must I continue to suffer for my mother’s sin?

Yes I am only cousin to the royal throne of Chiyah’s father, but I am also an heiress in the royal bloodline, and I should have some say in the affairs of the kingdom.

If I were queen, we would have already destroyed both Lasoon, and Endocrum.

Why must we wait to be slaughtered by those that fear us?

We must train, is all that she says. Maybe it is she who fears them. Yes I think so… This is why I say that Chiyah is not fit to lead. That is why I refuse to follow her.

Although I must admit that I am not powerful enough to challenge her in a physical confrontation. However, my day is coming soon."

    CHAPTER 1

    image_144.jpg

"I n the early nineteen sixties, an astrologist by the name of James Jefferson Wilkins discovered that a comet was heading on a collision with the Earth. Judging by its size and velocity, the scientific community predicted that the approaching Armageddon would reach and destroyed the Earth no later than the year 2005. So dozens of scientist, and engineers, along with the world’s leaders put their heads together to try and figure out away of escaping the impending doom of the Earth. The worst was feared by all, so it was decided that the only way to save the human race would be by a planetary evacuation, for the comet was deemed a global killer. In the year 1965 a handful of brilliant scientist and engineers from Japan, Germany, and the United States, (One of which was my great—great—great grandfather Germaine Colman) invented four space probes. It took six years to designed and build the star probes. Their names were the Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western stars.

These satellite probes were launched simultaneously from the North and South Poles, Easter Island, and the Bermuda Triangle. There mission was to find a planet with an atmosphere suitable for human life. The technology was so advanced and ahead of its time that it is still being used today. The probes were able to travel at the speed of light, while both receiving and sending data back to the earth. Each of them had atmospheric and environmental testers.

The stars also had smaller probes of their own. The probes were able to explore planets and moons by remote control. However, the four stars and their probes were controlled by an artificial intelligence system that we call Diaz.

Diaz is now the brain and central core of our entire civilization. It was named after its inventor. He was a genius in quantum physics, robotics, and nano-technology. Dr. Diaz knew that the job of monitoring and controlling the stars would be tedious, and to delicate for a human to maintain, therefore he created the super computer to do the task.

Transparent domes were built over entire cities for cover. The domes were made of an experimental alloy that tested indestructible by human standards.

The foundations of our flying cities were blasted and cut from the Earth itself, as giant propulsion systems were built into them. Hundreds of cities were built all over world. However, many people did not believe, and refused to leave our home planet.

In 1995 the eastern star discovered a galaxy with a solar system that only had three planets in it. Each of the three planets had atmospheres that were suitable for human life. By 2003, the journey had begun, and all three hundred and sixty transport cities were on their way to the new frontier. It was calculated by Diaz that the voyage would take approximately twenty-five years to reach our new home. Diaz kept a constant communication between the cities and the Earth. After two years of traveling through space, the majority of the pioneers of the galactic frontier began to think that the journey was in vain, and sort to return to Earth. After many controversial debates on the matter, it was decided by the president at the time that we would return to Earth. Two hours after making the decision, Diaz lost contact with our home planet. On 12-12-2012 the Earth was hit and totally destroyed by the comet. Now it is the year 2037 and we are only a week away from settling on our new home. There are only three planets in the solar system, and each of them is suitable for human life. What excites me the most is the fact that there are other life forms on all three of the planets. Whether they are hostile or not remains to be seen."

So mom, do you think that I’ll get an—A-?

"No, I think that you are going to do it over. For one thing, you were lazy in your writing. Look at this chicken scratch… . Here take this crap back, and rewrite it…

As a matter of fact, give me your pen… I know that you weren’t planning on turning in this mess." giggled Germaine’s mother, as she skimmed through his essay, and scribbled corrections as she read.

I can barely read your writing. added Ruth, as she shook her head, and handed Germaine back his now marked up essay.

"My teacher understands it… Mom, why did you write all over my work; I can’t turn it in like this.

I’m glad that your teacher understands your writing; that’s good for her… I want to understand it too… It doesn’t matter if I wrote on your work or not, because you’re going to write it over, anyway… When did your teacher give this assignment?

    Last week. mumbled Germaine, reluctantly.

Last week… , when is it due?

. . . Tomorrow. he replied after a brief pause.

Okay… I could have sworn that you promised me with all of your heart that you were going to pay more attention in class, and that you were going to stop turning in late, or half finished homework. This is the same trifling attitude that you had last semester. Look… I’m not trying to go through this with you right now, so this is what we are going to do. Everywhere that you see that I have written ‘needs more detail’ I want you to use more detail. You left out a lot of important information.

Like what? asked Germaine, as he flipped through his two and a half page of rushed, and written at the last minute essay.

The migration for one thing… . I think that your generation is about to be in for a rude awakening. You don’t understand what’s going on do you? Our planet was destroyed, and well over half of our race was killed… and now what’s left of us are on our way to father knows where, to be greeted by who knows what…

I thought that I covered everything—

"No Germaine, you didn’t even come close to telling how much of an arduous journey this has been for all of us.

Arduous… ! What does that mean?

You see what I mean? Look it up… and I want to see it in your rewrite. I didn’t hear you read anything about the construction of the transport cities, or how that thousands of men and women lost their lives while building them.

Yes I did… ; see its right hear… I wrote how that, giant transparent domes were built over entire cities, and that propulsion systems were—

Weak… with no detail. said Ruth, as she got up from the kitchen table, and put her coffee cup in the sink.

So tell me this, Mr. Think—you—got—it—all—figured out… How fast are we traveling? How was the propulsion systems designed, and built into the foundations of the cities? How was Diaz able to find our new home, and bring so many of us this far, and so fast? Why do we have to stay in orbit until the military recons the planet that has been chosen for us to live on? Why was that particular planet chosen over the other two?

Because it has the smallest population. whispered Germaine.

You don’t have to tell me; I want to see it in your book report… What else did I see wrong? . . . Oh yeah, I remember… I can’t believe that you didn’t even mention the crisis of 2016… When Diaz’s brain collapsed, and didn’t reboot for seventeen months… we almost ran out of food, water, and air. That is something that should never be forgotten. I want you to mention that. You’re going to have to add at least four more pages to this… If I were your teacher, I wouldn’t give you anything higher than a (D+). You didn’t even mention our father’s role in all of this—"

But mom, it’s only an essay; it is suppose to be short—

Okay look, I don’t want to talk about it anymore… just fix it! yelled Ruth, as she removed the lid from her infamous pot roast, and stirred it a little.

Ruth had been promising her husband that she was going to cook the dish for weeks. It was the professor’s favorite, so she offered it to him with a small price. Ruth made her husband promise not to work late, so that they could eat Sunday dinner as a family.

Now, go and clean up for supper; your father should be home soon. You know that he is going to want to eat dinner as soon as he gets here. said Ruth as she took a pan of corn bread out of the oven.

He will probably spend half the night working on that honk of junk that he has in the basement. Oh well, at least we will have our dinner as a family tonight. I think that Germaine needs that. thought Ruth.

Germaine went back to his room, with his assigned essay, {but soon to be book report.} balled up in his hand, and feeling exactly the way that he knew he would. He kind of figured that she wouldn’t be impressed by his homework… even if he had put fort some real effort in writing it. Germaine stormed to his room and slammed the door.

Is there a problem Germaine; you seem to be upset. Would you like to talk about it?

    No Diaz, not right now.

    Are you sure, Germaine?

Okay… , it’s my essay… I read it to mom, and she said that it doesn’t have enough detail, and that if she were my teacher she would give me a (D+).

    What was the topic?

I had to write an essay on The Great Migration. That is all that we ever talk about in school; you know that.

Did you mention me in your essay?

Of course I did, Diaz. answered Germaine, as he lay across his bed and propped his feet up on the window sell.

Did you mention that I am programmed to recognize the voices of every citizen, and that I am connected to, and is accessible in every home, all businesses, schools, churches, malls… even and I am even in every aspect of the police and military?

No Diaz, I didn’t get that deep into it…

Did you mention how that it was your father, who revived me from my crash in 2016?

Look… ! It’s not a book report… I only had to right an essay! I don’t want to stand in front of my class and read four extra pages of unnecessary information… I’m going to sound like a nerd or something. I’d probably sound like my dad or somebody.

Your father is a brilliant scientist and engineer; you should be proud—

Okay… why does everybody keep trying to compare me to my father; I’m not him… I am me! I don’t want to be a scientist, or engineer… I just want to be me!

Yes you are you, Germaine. I am only suggesting that you apply yourself, and take your studies more seriously. Your father’s success should inspire you to the best at whatever you decide to be.

I want to be an Exo-suit pilot… They are the coolest…

If being an Exo-suit pilot is what you desire then, you must apply yourself, and take your studies more seriously.

Diaz, you said that already; I’ll rewrite the stupid essay… , and sound like a buster.

    Attend-hut… !

"At ease Men… I’m going to try and make this brief…

At 0800 hours, we’re going to start the exploration of one of the planets… the smallest of the three. The Eastern Star has deployed surveillance drones over the entire planet. They are reporting that it is not much different from the Earth. It has trees, rivers, a breathable atmosphere, and fertile soil… The air tested to be fifty five percent purer than what it was on Earth. However, there are intelligent life forms down there, and our job is to find out whether they are hostile or not. The surveillance drones are surveying the planet and the life forms as I speak. With all two hundred and fifty drones being controlled by Diaz, we should have the Intel that we need within the hour. People… , this is not an invasion. I want this thing to go as smoothly as possible. Now, are there any questions?"

Yes sir, I have a question, sir… How do we communicate with these aliens?

Actually badger leader, we are the aliens. But, that’s a good question. As you all know, our Exo-suits are equipped with onboard computers that’s linked to Diaz’s mainframe. Diaz is programmed to translate thousands of languages and dialects. Hopefully we will be able to interpret theirs.

But sir… , our Exo-suit’s haven’t been tested in battle; how do we know that we’re prepared for a confrontational encounter with these aliens? asked the leader of the Black Devil command unit.

After a moment of silence, General Pontani looked over at Professor Coleman and said, Would you like to take it from here?

Sure General. answered Professor Coleman, as he made his way to the podium. As much as he hated giving lectures about his work to those that wouldn’t understand or appreciate it, Professor Coleman was honored when the president asked him to speak the troops.

Well—I guess I feel responsible for you all. This mission is going to be a test for all of us. You are the brave men and women that will be placing your lives in the hands of my dream…

A test for all of us; who is this buster? whispered one the armored Imp troopers.

I don’t know, but he’s kinda cute. giggled another.

This is for the birds… hey Lt . . , who is this clown, anyway?

He designed the Exo-suits, you idiot… now shut it up before I come over there and give you two something to run your mouth’s about. grunted the Imp leader.

Your Exo-suits are made of the same material as the domes that cover our transport cities, so they are virtually indestructible by Earth’s standards…

Yeah… , and this isn’t Kansas anymore either… whispered the White Devil Commander.

When I designed the suits, your safety was my primary concern. We don’t know what’s out here, so I crossed every (-t-) in the safety department, and dotted every (.I.) with its fire power and maneuverability. These things along with being able to engage an enemy at quarter of the speed of light, we shouldn’t have too much to worry about. Besides, we have a huge advantage over anything that we might encounter.

Oh yeah… , and what is that? shouted one of the badger commanders. Professor Coleman smirked, as he looked around the room and said, We have Diaz…

The Professor then stepped away from the podium and took his seat, as his audience (Who still wasn’t fully assured of the Exo-suits’ ability to perform effectively against an enemy that may have superior tech,) reluctantly applauded.

Thank you Professor. said Pontani, as he stepped back up to the podium.

Nevertheless, we are going to try to avoid any kind of conflict with the planet’s inhibiters. However, I’m more than confident that we have the fire power and technology needed to protect ourselves. said Pontani, as he looked over at Professor Coleman, and nodded at him confidently. Although Pontani didn’t care for The Professor, he respected his work.

Now, you have all been trained in your Exo-suit’s. You know its maneuverability, agility, and fire power. Just as we are putting our faith in Professor Coleman’s machines, the remnants’ of our civilization… , our families, friends, and elders are hoping that we can keep them safe… , and its our job to give them that peace. We don’t know what’s down their people, so don’t loose your confidents. Stay sharp, and remember your training. The Exo-suits’ armor is strong enough to withstand damn near anything that could possibly be thrown at it. If we do have to fight; be it in the air, on land, or in the sea your Exo-suit’s should prove to be very effective in battle… the rest is up to you. We should be prepped, and ready to go by the end of the week. Until then, I want you to go home to your families, and love ones. You have been training around the clock for this day, and you all have earned a four day leave… You’re dismissed.

The soldiers left the conference room talking amongst themselves about the mission. Many of them had mixed emotions about the quality of the Exo-suits, while others doubted Diaz’s ability to lead them in battle. Although they had trained in simulated battles for years, the Exo-Fleet hadn’t been tried by the fires of a real war. I don’t think that the soldiers were concerned about Diaz, or the effectiveness of their Exo—suits, I believe that it was their own self doubts that they were contending with.

So, what do you think Perkins?

What do I think about what, Mitchell?

This mission… do you think that we are going to see any action?

Oh yeah baby doll… yes indeed… I can feel it in my gut. If there is one thing for certain, then two things are always gonna be for sure…

    What are they?

There is gonna be good and bad wherever you go.

So are we the good guys, or the bad guys?

Honestly… you know what I would say if I were one of them, and the Human race was about to set up shop on my planet?

I know that I am gonna regret asking, but what would you say, Perkins?

‘I would say… , Their goes the neighborhood.

I know that’s right… I would probably say the same thing. Yeah Perkins, I think that you are right; we are gonna see some Hellafied action.

Hey Kenny, what are you about to get into?

I’m supposed to be taking Rhonda to dinner and a movie, but I don’t know. Why… what’s up?

Dinner and a movie; I thought all of that crap stopped after marriage?

Don’t tell me that she got you henpecked already, Kenny?

No Watts, I am not henpecked.

Maybe I should take Shauna out tonight; she’s been kind of cranky lately. Let’s say we do a double date.

I don’t care; just let me check with Rhonda before you mention it to Shauna…

Check with Rhonda… oh he’s not henpecked at all, Laughed Watts, as he looked at Kenny from the corner of his eye.

I’m only being considerate, Watts. I wear the pants in this outfit, and Rhonda knows it. Now I may allow her to wear a shirt every now and then, just to keep balance…

Damn Capt, it sound like you’ve been reading one of those good marriage books…

How can you guys joke around, and talk about dinner dates when we have such a great mission ahead of us? We should be preparing ourselves… I mean… we don’t even know if the Exo-suits will protect us!

Look baby doll… I don’t know, or care. We got ourselves a few days of rest and relaxation. If these are our last days alive, I’m not going to spend them scared to death, and stressed all out! The only thing that I’m thinking about is the fight that I’m about to go home pick with my wife.

Are you two going at it again, Perkins? asked Kenny.

Yeah, you know how we do; hate each other today, loving each other tonight.

Oh my goodness, you guys are ridiculous!

Look Pam, you are one of the sharpest pilots in my unit and I need you to have your head and heart right; do you understand me? That’s why they gave us this leave; so that we can unwind. Listen to me Black Devils, this goes for all of us. If we do suffer any casualties, it won’t be because one of us lost our cool. said Kenny, as he looked at each member of his unit.

Now, go home and get your heads and hearts right; I have a shuttle to catch.

"You know Pam, if you need somebody to get your head right,
