About this ebook

It is 2032 as a Land Cruiser carrying five scientists drives into the Egyptian desert. Inside is Dr. Sarah Michael, a top Egyptologist, and four students thrilled to finally reach their destination after months of searching. Moments later they enter a tomb, hoping it holds the answers they are seeking. Instead, they discovered they are trapped inside with nothing to guide them but the voice of a hologram.

As Monar, once Chief Scientist of planet Nomory, spews the story he has been programmed to hold secret for centuries, the scientists are led on a journey through time where they learn about an intra-galactic war and the legends who shaped the history of the world. But after hours in the tomb, the group discovers that Monar is sharing his story for one shocking reason: to help them prepare for an upcoming war in their time.

Legends intertwines the past with the future inside an Egyptian tomb as five scientists realize it is up to them to prevent the destruction of Earth.

    PROLOGUE

Wow, it is so hot here! I have never felt anything like this before, John groaned wiping sweat from his brow. He did not fare well with the sun’s heat. Do any of you know what the temperature is? My skin is almost burnt!

Sarah opened her blue eyes which she had closed because her sunglasses did not help much in the sun’s harsh glare. She looked to him. Well, I think they said it would be about a hundred degrees but from what I am feeling, it is at least a hundred and thirty!

What? A hundred and thirty? No way! I should have stayed home with my mom. John said Didn’t we already solve the global warming problem? I thought we did that two years ago at the 2030 global science fair.

We did, but do not forget they said it would be at least three more years until everything was back to normal. Sarah pointed a short and slender finger to the sands under them. Also, do not forget that we are in the desert, so this is normal.

Melinda spoke, interrupting Sarah, You know what John? You may be correct. You should have stayed with your mama so she could burp you every day after she fed you. She started laughing and everyone else joined in.

We are almost there, Fares said, interrupting the laughing as he pointed to a location in the desert. But we need to go on foot the rest of the way. The desert terrain does not make for easy passage in vehicles anymore.

Finally something to stop you from making fun of me, John said, pouting as he got out of the vehicle.

Sarah walked around until she was in front of everyone. Today should be our best day. As you know, we have been looking for this tomb for about five months now. We have finally found it!

It was one of the hottest days of the 2032 summer when the silver 4x4 Land Cruiser carrying five scientists dove into the depth of the desert.

Dr. Sarah Michael, the oldest and the leader of the group was a thirty-two years-old Egyptologist and one of the best in the world. Her blue eyes showed a great deal of the intelligence she inherited from her father Dan, who was a legendary Egyptologist himself. She stood about five foot two and her short, blond hair hid her abundant energy.

John, one of Sarah’s students, was twenty-five years old. He was smart but sometimes tended to be lazy. The only thing he really enjoyed was going to the gym and building more muscle mass. He was the only son of a single mother, who took exquisite care of him to the point of spoiling him.

Fares, another student of Sarah, met her team in Egypt with his sister, Nour. They had joined Sarah’s research team as interns during their post-graduate studies in Egyptology. At twenty-eight years old, Fares was smart and always seeking knowledge. He feared nothing. Nour, Fares’s twin sister, did not like being an Egyptologist in the beginning because she was not fond of history, but she began to love it when she met Sarah and realized what she could learn and get from history.

Melinda, the last member of Sarah’s team, was twenty-four years old. Sarah owed some favors to Melinda’s father so she accepted the young scholar on her team, not for her abilities, but to pay off that favor.

The five of them had been riding in the 4x4 under the direct sunlight, on a day that was scorchingly hot, even for the Egyptian desert. They had finally reached their destination after five months of searching. Once they had loaded the gear on their sweat-soaked bodies, they began to walk in the desert toward the tomb. Together the five formed a team of Egyptologists looking for the tomb mentioned in a papyrus Sarah’s father received a year ago. They had gone to Egypt and began to look for it in the western desert around August 2031. After almost five months of digging, they finally found it.

The tomb was a gigantic cube approximately one hundred feet per side. It was shiny. They could not identify the metal from which it was made. The top was silver and flat, while the other faces were entirely black. The material was tough; they were unable to cut through it using either lasers or diamond cutters. It had a lot of hieroglyphic markings on it, in addition to other markings they believed to be a language never seen before. All of that made them believe that it was what they were looking for, the missing tomb that was mentioned in the papyrus.

Nour, the quietest one on the team, finally said something. I am sorry, but this is totally weird! I have never seen a tomb like this one. What are all these symbols? What is this material? The tomb is not built out of rocks or clay like all of the other ancient Egyptians tombs.

Let me answer those questions, Sarah said. They all stopped to listen. That was why we had to leave the United States as soon as we were able to. The fax I received notified me that the first investigation team failed to find any doors to this tomb and that the material from which it was built is resistant to everything. They cannot even scratch it using diamonds cutters. As you can see, the symbols all around it are also strange. Some of them look like hieroglyphs, but they do not have any meaning that we know of, except for one phrase on the other side. Come and let me show you. The group followed her to the other side of the tomb.

Well, this is odd! Fares shouted while looking at one particular phrase. It reads ‘Whoever rests in peace might rise again and lead the people to another victory.’ It also says that the doors will not open except for the chosen one. I think Nour is going to freak out now.

When Nour heard this, she turned quickly to face Fares and yelled in his face. Why do you think that?

Well, you always freak out over stuff like this. It has always been the case with you, Fares replied.

You know that you are annoying, right? She turned her back to him and walked toward the wall of the tomb, moved some sand away, and then stopped, suddenly. Oh my god! Did anyone notice this picture? I just removed the sand and found this.

Fares walked toward her. This thing on the left looks like a vampire and those two figures, he gestured at several inscribed renderings, look like a mix between humans and wolves. This thing flying above is certainly a dragon. He stood up and joined both of his hands over his head, shocked at what he was seeing.

John spoke with sarcasm, Vampires, werewolves, and dragons. Next thing you will tell me that you saw Medusa and Cyclops. You guys watch a lot of movies, especially you, Fares.

Just shut up and look for yourself. I found them and other in addition. The whole lower part is a huge drawing, containing all the mythical figures we have ever heard about from any source. And, yes, John, Medusa and Cyclops are there, along with other creatures I have never heard of, Fares said in anger.

Melinda joined the conversation, What exactly is this thing? I thought we would be looking for the tomb of some ancient Egyptian king or something like that. She stumbled as she tried walking toward them in her two-inch-high heels.

I am surprised. Everyone turned to look at Sarah, who then said, Since I observed the papyrus, I have been preparing myself for some surprise because this tomb is something entirely outside of Egyptian history. But to be frank, I never thought that we would find the tomb of a vampire!

You think we will find a vampire inside? Melinda asked.

Or a werewolf, or a Cyclops, or a dragon. It does not matter as long as we have no way of forcing open this crap, John said impatiently, kicking the wall.

You are right, Sarah replied. We should spend our efforts on finding a way to get inside and I do not like to request a nuke just for opening a tomb. Also …

Hey guys come here, Fares called out, from the far side of the tomb.

They all walked toward him. Sarah was the first to reach him, saying, What did you find?

This thing seems to be a hand scanner. What do you think it is Sarah? Fares replied, while pointing with his long, thin finger at some weird inscription on the tomb.

Sarah translated. It is saying that the chosen one must enter the key to open the door and to raise the king from his ashes …

Melinda interrupted, Hey guys, aren’t you all missing something?

They all looked to her, but Sarah looked the most interested in Melinda’s question. What do you mean?

Melinda pointed at the tomb. This is the third or the fourth time we have seen some phrase telling us that something inside will rise again to control everything. We all saw those drawings of vampires and werewolves. Don’t you think we should leave this thing unopened or at least continue with caution?

Melinda, this is your first field excavation, John said, laughing. Ancient Egyptian phrases are always about someone rising from death to rule again, so do not worry, we will not find something inside that will be awaken to kill us all.

What does this thing actually do? Sarah asked while trying to touch the thing that looked like a hand scanner.

Suddenly, the screen lit up out of nowhere as characters in a strange language began to form on the screen and flashed one after the other in what looked like a countdown. A part of the wall disappeared and the tomb emitted some form of artificial light from inside.

Fares tried to look inside and then he stopped and looked back at the team. Sarah, we do not know what just happened or why. I really do not think it is a good idea to go in there. We should leave. Now!

Without a moment of hesitation, Sarah walked toward the tomb and Fares screamed at her. Sarah, wait, let’s talk about this, wait! He ran after her and the other team members all ran after him. As they entered the tomb, they passed through something which looked like a door. The group then walked down a few stair steps and found themselves facing the entrance to a strange looking room.

The group all went inside at once and suddenly the tomb door closed behind them. What the? John said, walking back to the door, kicking it to try to open it.

I told you, Fares said, trying not to show worry.

Nour and Melinda looked at each other, eyes wide. They were stuck! When the door did not reopen for John, and when they could find no other way out, the group turned to the inside of the tomb and began to look around.

The tomb did not have anything inside except that it seemed entirely unfamiliar. It was ice cold, and on the top of it was something that looked exactly the same as the hand reader outside, along with something that looked like a control panel. Sarah walked up to the device, wondering if it would do the same as it had outside. Are you sure it will work again? she asked while reaching toward the screen with her hand.

Do you see anything else we can do? John said, angry. Come on, it was you that got us sucked inside this stupid thing, press the damn screen please!

Once Sarah’s hand pressed over the panel, lights emitted from nowhere and formed a holographic-like representation of something that looked human. It started to talk to them. You must be the chosen one and that’s why the ship opened for your touch.

Who are you and how do you speak English? What is this place? And what is this all about? Sarah asked in a hurry.

The hologram replied, My name is Monar and this tomb, which is a vehicle in reality, has hundreds of sensors that are able to track and sense everything that is happening in this galaxy, from weather changes to weapons deployments and bombs detonating, even if they happen light years away. This vehicle has an onboard computer which analyzes data continuously. It noted your team’s spoken words this morning and determined that you mainly speak this language with American dialect, which is why my system turned to this language. Most of you are coming from America, so my system changed my response to American, so you can understand me.

Those were the words of the hologram. Monar looked like a man. He was about six feet tall, with short gray hair and a short gray beard and mustache. His eyes were shiny green, showing a great deal of intelligence, but they look human. He had white skin and he was wearing a white long shirt with white pants and white shoes.

What about my other two questions? Sarah asked.

Well, those two questions will need a lot of time, so please sit down and listen to my story…

    CHAPTER ONE

    The Last Mission

Monar, you are the last hope for all of us. Do not let my death go in vain.

Those were Gonar’s, last words before he died in front of my eyes. He was my grand master, mentor and my own father.

I used to be the Chief Scientist of a planet called Nomory, which is located in a galaxy known as NGC 4321, also known as M100. It is located in the constellation Coma Berenices. I was twenty-eight years old, by earth’s time, when this war happened and I was one of the most-respected male scientists on my planet.

Twenty-one Earth years before I recorded this message, we went to war with the Drakons, a very savage species from the planet Drakon, which was all that we knew about it. We did not even know the exact location of the planet which was long gone by that time. They survived by conquering different planets, killing everyone on the top of them and then destroying the entire planet for no apparent reason. Once the new planet is destroyed, they moved on and this time, it was our planet’s turn.

Both we and the Drakons look alike externally and we both look like humans except the Drakons have a paler skin and their eyes have no whites. Another significant difference between the two of us is that we, as Nomorians, are a peaceful species who spent their time and energy on scientific advancements. Drakons, on the other hand, were mainly about military buildup, weaponry, and fighting wars. As far as we know, they were not like this, hundreds of years ago, but some dramatic event that we were not entirely sure of changed all of their priorities and made them what they are now.

They went to war under the leadership of Zondar. He was a fearless immortal who had been leading the Drakons for hundreds of years. No one knew the truth about where he came from or how he became immortal, but the Drakons feared him and they followed him as they never followed anyone before.

The Nomorian race had only a small army, nothing to match the Drakons, yet we had the advantage of knowing the war was coming. We had seen what it had done to other planets, how the Drakons had consumed every being, every living thing, even every planet as a whole. There were even some refugees from other planets amongst our own. Our firepower was small, but our will to survive was strong. Politicians still took their toll, and if Gonar had not encouraged the twelve councilors of Nomory to listen to me and start building a weaponry science department, we would not have had a chance to escape from our planet. We would have been killed immediately after the attack.

In the midst of the destruction of Nomory, I had my last meeting with the councilors and I suggested sending one hundred of our best scientists, covered by our small army, to another planet which we called Bluwenda, the name we used for planet Earth. We planned to send them to Earth, twenty years in the past to give them a chance to build a stronger army with more advanced weaponry. We would be ready to repel the attack and win the war again when it was the time.

Initially, when I had met with the councilors before the Drakons brought their war machine to our planet, they refused my suggestion and they hardly agreed to make it our backup plan, ready to be executed in case we lost the war. Their primary plan was very naïve, a hope that the Drakons would not dare to go into a war with us. Once it was proven that their primary plan was a failure, Gonar gave me an order to execute the backup plan, and take with me all the survivors. I knew it was not an easy mission but I was willing to risk my life making sure it was completed.

The Drakons already occupied every single rock on our planet. I needed to sneak into our central laboratory with all the remaining scientists and soldiers, which were all we had left and use our jumper to jump onto earth twenty years in the past. The jumper is a device we invented that bends the space-time dimension. In short, it creates wormholes that allow us to travel both in time and space almost immediately.

After the invasion forces arrived and began to throw our planet into chaos, I collected all the Nomorians I was able to find and we escaped to a secret bunker, underground, a mere thousand feet away from where Gonar and all the councilors died when their hall crashed over their heads. It was originally built as a shelter in case of any natural disaster and it was designed to hold at least five thousand Nomorians and support their living for over five hundred days of our time. It was designed to be undetected by anyone who did not know about it, as it was built out of a new material that could not be detected by any scanning device of that time and the only door that led to it was hidden very carefully among the surface rocks, in a way, that made it indistinguishable unless you knew exactly what you were looking for.

Brothers, it is time to execute the plan, I said quietly.

    Sir, one soldier started.

    But ... another interrupted.

I suddenly had a majority of the soldiers trying to interject concerns with the plan. A hundred voices at once, interrupting each other, talking over the others, and frankly, giving me a headache.

Stop! I know you all are concerned about the eyes and their ability to monitor the changes in cytagonic energy, I stated.

Sigmon, the leader of our soldiers, stood up to face me. Yes, sir. What are we going to do about them? They are everywhere.

I have an idea. Just follow me, I told the soldiers.

What they did not know was that I did not actually have a plan yet. I did not know how we were going to fool the Drakons’ eyes which were flying everywhere over the planet’s surface, frying any Survivors. They were all connected, monitoring every single rock on the surface and any change in energy, electromagnetic waves, or pressure would alert the Drakons immediately, making it impossible to fool them.

My hope was based on Gonar’s words to me. He always said that there is no system that is 100% fail-proof. There must be a way that we could fool the eyes and I knew I must find a way soon. Otherwise, the mission would fail before it began.

Suddenly, my student, Dimor, started to jump around shouting I found it, I found it!

I grabbed his shoulders roughly. What did you find, idiot? And lower your voice! I know we are protected here, but you could get us killed if they are able to detect vibrations in this spot!

He looked at me in fear as he realized the possibility of death. Sorry, sir, I just did not believe it. I think I have found a way to fool the fail-proof eyes.

Robyana, our psychology and sociology specialist, turned her piercing blue eyes on Dimor, clearly annoyed with his behavior. She stood and went to him. That is excellent. Can you please share the idea with us and do not behave like a child who missed his favorite show.

Dimor turned back to Robyana to explain. It is really simple and it has been above us all the time. You all know that the eyes mainly monitor the cytagonic energy changes, right?

That is nothing new! She then turned her back to him and breathed out her annoyance. You need to jump directly to the idea. I am too stressed to hear any of your games and stories.

OK. I would just continue and tell you what Dimor was going to say because I think I got the same idea. I said, The idea simply is that cytagonic energy erupts a lot when the air molecules get mixed with the black sands and when the temperature of the black sands was about two thousand degrees. It happens that we are under one of the richest black sands locations on the planet. We just need something to ignite the sands with and a way to blow the sands to the air. I then looked into Sigmon’s face who looked very puzzled with that empty stare of his eyes and his mouth that was wide open What is it Sigmon? Do you have any questions?

Sir, I still do not understand. This will put all the eyes on alert and would make them actively searching for us. How exactly will this help us move without being noticed?

Before I could answer the question, Dimor stood up and faced me. Sir, let me answer, please. He then looked at Sigmon. What we will do is to repeat this process several times and after each time, we will head back here, to our underground room. Each time, the Drakons will send a lot of soldiers and then after many times they will think that the energy levels in this area are unstable and then they will send for a few soldiers to watch the area instead of the eyes, Dimor said.

This will give us some time to go to the lab. Their soldiers are much easier to fool than the eyes. Got it now Sigmon? I asked.

That sounds good but, sir, we do not have anything right now to ignite the sands with and we do not have any way to blow the sands into the air either, Sigmon commented.

You are right, Sigmon, but I know how we will be able to do this. It is pretty dangerous, but it is our only way. I will need you and five of your best soldiers to do it, I replied and then looked at the soldiers. Are you ready for this?

They were all motivated and assured me that they were all ready to move. I made it clear for all of them that this could be a one-way trip, but they did not object. They knew what was at stake and that without anyone stepping up to do this, we may all end up dying anyway. Every single one of them showed complete control over his or her emotions and the determination that showed in their eyes was something I had never seen before, and it made me proud.

I then continued, Now, here is the plan. There is an underground lab just a few meters from here. What I want you to do is to wait until the next eyes’ shift. Between shifts, there is a window of one minute that you can move unnoticed, so you will have only one minute to move from here.

I then paused, making sure they understood. Go up, run to the lab and open it, then wait inside for the next shift which will come in six hours, after that you will have another minute to bring us the molecules igniter and wind shifter. The molecules igniter will accelerate the electrons of the atoms, in any element, to the level that ignites the molecules internally so the element would catch fire. We will use this to ignite the sands.

I then paused for a moment to take my breath. The wind shifter controls the rate of the air flow around the eyes so we can move the ignited sands up into the air to make the eyes issue the warning.

We will not be able to communicate with you, so we will not know if you succeeded or not. We will wait for two shifts and then, if you have not returned, we will know that you have failed and we will try again. Can you do this, Sigmon? I asked.

Yes, sir. We will do it or die trying, Sigmon replied.

Ok, let’s do it. The next shift will happen in exactly five minutes, I said.

    ………………………………………………………………………..

Twelve hours passed since the soldiers went outside. There was a lot of chitchatting going on and many people were crying and talking amongst themselves which showed that if the soldiers did not return soon, we would have a total meltdown coming shortly. This was expected. Most of the people had not faced such a situation before and they felt trapped and surrounded by death. It was nerve-wracking even for soldiers because technically, they never went to any wars or had been in any similar situations.

I was anxious myself and feeling sick as I was the one who sent them out. While I was deep in thought, Dimor came and sat beside me. He looked worried himself. Sir, it has been two shifts since the soldiers went outside to bring the devices. I do not think they made it.

I tried not to look into his eyes when I replied, I do not know, Dimor. They were our best soldiers and really our only chance. I cannot even think about the possibility of them failing. I do not know what we can do!

But, sir…, he paused for a moment. We must do something!

I held his shoulders. I know, Dimor. Standing, I let out a deep breath before continuing, Let’s make another try on the next shift and hope it will succeed this time.

While we were getting ready to send more soldiers, the door to our hideout opened, and Sigmon entered with only
