Chapter 1
Anson McQueen and Brad Spirro woke up in their room in Aruba. They had just been to Chile on an assignment and were going to go to Peru on another assignment. But for right now and a few more days...they wanted a few days to breathe. They sat there in their bathrobes with the bacon, eggs and mimosa and remembered the old days.
They had worked together...if one could call it that...since they met in the late 80s’ at Desert Storm. They had become best friends very early on. Brad went on to being a legit businessman...an engineer and import/export of alcohol and cigars. Anson did time as an IRA hit man and was rumored to be a contract hitter for several people. But when he needed to look more legit...he would hang around his mousy friend and partner Brad as he saw fit.
Thru it all Brad helped cover several of Anson’s random rapes and murders whenever he was hired or just got in one of his moods. He happily did it because there were days Brad wanted to break and start doing the same thing...far more than anyone understood...except for maybe Anson.
Even though Brad had gone on to have a wife and kids and happily live in the Florida Keys...when they were not on their own assignments...Brad knew in his heart that he could and would be as sadistic as Anson if he ever crossed over into that world. That was why he valued having him as a best friend and business partner so much; also why he thought nothing of doing whatever he must in order to cover up what Anson had done along the way that he knew about.
War battles were an awesome place to cover up a nature such as that. Undocumented people died all the time...it would have been paradise for a lot more serial killers if the psych evaluation was not so hard to fake. But Brad had done it and apparently so had Anson.
That had not stopped either of them from going hunting for people such as themselves in those environments though. But unfortunately...going to that environment every day was as feasible as making a living at trade shows with there only being five or six a year.
Instead, they gradually became mercenaries for hire. Only they were quite strict about whom they allowed to hire them. Anson was more the muscle out of the two...Brad was an engineer who had programmed lots of systems and programs for lots of people.
He had also developed a mandatorily unofficial business importing Cuban cigars. If you know who to talk to...you could get sixty or eighty bucks per cigar with no problem. Some of these people were far richer than he would ever be. Similar to how you could make more than a decent living cleaning the pools or houses in a place like Beverly Hills or Florida Keys (as Brad did). But it would still never be close to the net worth of who you were servicing.
Anyway, Brad had very gradually noticed that if someone was rich enough...they felt and acted like they were entitled to whatever the hell they wanted. One day at random, Anson was waiting for Brad to finish programming systems for a guy who built yachts. This guy was also how Brad learned about the potential of selling Cuban cigars.
Anyway, Anson apparently talked to his wife who might have initially been joking when she offered ten thousand dollars to beat his ass. But she followed thru when he took her up on it.
At first, Brad was irate. But then he realized that there were situations such as that everywhere once he stopped being a virtual mouse and actually being aware of what went on around him. If one did a good job...it is easy to get referred to ones’ friends who want similar things.
But before they got too carried away...it was necessary to come up with some criteria for when this was okay and when it was not. Sort of like hunting other would be war criminals...only who said that committing murders was the only thing that deserved a death sentence. There were other ideas that seemed ongoing as well...but the Asshole Ex Club
seemed to be one that was most interesting and promising.
So about ten years ago, they had set the guidelines. The fee was going to be five hundred thousand in cash. Installments were allowed on a case by case basis. Otherwise, it was two million entirely paid upfront if certain conditions were not meant and it was just entirely arbitrary. Brad and Anson had killed three in that manner...if they could believe that that much more money was necessary why the hell not. It was
