PEDIATRIC
‘Aardvark man…’ I liked the sound of that. It was no small ego boost to be accepted to the world’s foremost University and indeed its famed medical school. So this was a time of hope and anticipation for me, anticipation for my new life as an independent adult and for all the pleasures that awaited me.
Aardvark was a tough school and I knew that for the next four years and probably for decades thereafter, my life would resemble an extended underwater dive with few opportunities to come up for air. I toyed with the idea of going to a smaller, local school, where I could study a little, party a lot and just live the life of a typical college kid. I was in that frame of mind when I decided to spend my last summer of freedom globe-trotting with my high school buddy, Taylor. Taylor was a movie star and so I followed him to Holywood, where he was shooting a film. This gave me the chance to observe the inner workings of Holywood.
Autism
‹3 yo, repetitive behavior, marked hearing impairment
Undetected hearing impairment (e.g. hereditary, following repeated ear infections) can produce similar symptoms but detected at older age
Holywood sets were like a huge rumor mill. We heard that on the set next to ours, Tales Hoffman was making a movie with Thon Cruz about an autistic idiot savant.
Asperger Syndrome
More communicative, appear more socially aware, no language impairments, repetitive behavior
Nearby, Josh Harthrobbe was also making a movie about a young, hot ‘Aspy’ couple. I guess it was autism year for Holywood…
Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
Period of normal development for at least 2 yrs followed by loss of previously acquired skills like expressive or receptive language, social skills, play & motor skills
