GOLDEN AGE THE LAST PROPHECY OF MAN SCRIPT BOOK
FOREWORD
THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
I’ve been incredibly lucky to be a part of Golden Age from the beginning, and considering how many delays I’ve caused, amazingly lucky that Ben is so forgiving.
When we recorded the first season back in 2008, the entire cast was huddled in a tiny flat in Hertford for two days, laying down the whole series without cessation. As a result, there was a great sense of camaraderie between us that I think shows in the finished product. There was also a lot of opportunity for immediate feedback and revision. Since that time, I’ve emigrated Stateside, so when it came time to work on Prophecy, I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to have as close an involvement with the rest of the team. But Ben and I managed to find enough time across borders and time zones to thoroughly collaborate on the performance, and he made me feel like I was back in that bedsit, 4 years previously, working with our friends on a truly exciting project.
The first season of Golden Age drew from the traditions of the golden ages of storytelling and entertainment, and created a rollicking adventure that was exciting and enjoyable. But layered into the story is an incredibly rich universe and history that rivals the best of the genre, and can spawn a multitude of different narratives (at least a couple of which have been explored on the community forums). The Last Prophecy of Man expands upon that lore, not only providing more context for the story we are already familiar with, but developing an engaging, exciting adventure in its own right.
One of the things that makes the series so fulfilling, and so immersive, is not just the level of detail that Ben has written in, but moreover the balance of that detail. It never feels like his version of the world is being forced upon a listener; that you’re only allowed to imagine what you’re told to. There is enough that is not said to allow someone to form their own organic universe. There are potentially millions of Continents out there, each with their own unique landscapes and ecosystems. A million Captain Waltzes tormented by a million Heralds. And they are all spectacular.

EPISODE 1
THE LAST PROPHECY OF MAN.
Music – Regal and stirring, as if something of historical importance is happening.
Sound – The murmuring of men seated around a table, it quietens as speaking begins.
CALMA: We stand at the dawn of a new age. For fifty years the Mana Wars have torn apart the Continent. We’ve spent every hour fighting for our survival against the Dijinn, against the very extinction of Humanity itself. Now, in the wake of our victory at Keast and the Dijinn’s withdrawal, we can finally enter a period of peace and renewal.
But before we break camp and return home, there is a matter that needs to be attended to. In this room are the collected Lords or elects of each of the five Noble Houses. We have been generals for as long as any of us can remember; now we can return to our lands and truly rule again, knowing that the CORE will oversee the enforcement of our laws. No longer will we need to summon the banners and call our people to battle. Farmers can farm again. We have sealed and buried the ruins of the old world, buried beneath the land, and seek to build a new one.
Sound – There are murmurs of agreement.
Today we have gathered to hear the results of a vote. Lords Escudo and Servantus have called for a law forbidding the use or research of magic. An understandable decision given the nature of the war we’ve just fought; few could argue that a second magical war would tear this world apart. However Lord Verand and I as head of House Calma fear that such harsh measures will only lead to future problems. With Lord Millium too old to fight his eldest son has served as general in his stead. However on this matter of law we have had to wait for messengers to return with the answer from Lord Millium’s own lips . . .
Sound – A paper is unrolled.
(Sighs) It would seem that Millium sides with Servantus and Escudo. Magic in all its forms will be banned by law from this day forward. Entry into the ruins of the old world will be forbidden. The CORE will see that this is so. I thank you all for coming today gentlemen and hope the journeys to your respective Households are swift and untroubled.
Sound – There are murmurings of agreement. People rise and leave. After a moment the cloth of the tent moves and somebody enters.
SOLDIER: Lord Calma. There’s a man outside requesting a private audience. He claims to be from the ‘First of Foot.’
CAL MA: Show him in.
SOLDIER: Yes sir.
Sound – The soldier leaves and ELM HARKNESS enters.
ELM: Lord Calma. Thank you for seeing me on such short notice.
CALMA: Sergeant Harkness? We thought you all dead. Is Captain
