Infrastructure

The school was like most girls’ secondary schools in the country. Five classrooms of 35 to 40 girls, and five classes, added up to about one thousand students, most of whom were boarders. There were a lot of old buildings on the campus; four of which were dormitories containing bunk beds for about 120 girls. The two new dormitories were twice as large as the old dormitories.

I was part of the second set of students who would sit for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). I was anxious and worried plus there was no adequate guidance counseling. My school was a federal government secondary school, so there was no backing out of this new 6 education initiative. I was one of the guinea pigs; other schools in the country were still doing the 5 year school year. So many of my classmates and I took the General Certificate Exam(GCE), West African School Certificate (WASC) and Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB),like the other schools, because the new system meant that we were going to be a year behind our
