    EXT.SPACE.NIGHT

    Frontier America

    Dan Sheldon

    EXT.SPACE.NIGHT

We drift through lifeless space. The stars shine brighter as we get closer then fade into the darkness behind us.

A force pushes us forward down a black hole.

At the end of the black hole are planets and moons, the earth and satellites.

We reach and approach a satellite with awe and caution, seemingly a sign of respect and wonder.

We glide over the structure of the satellite then reach a screen.

The screen is small, and is transmitting the image of a newscast. As we zoom toward the screen, the pixels separate and we move forward through the transmit ion. As we get closer to the signal’s source, the voice over of the newscaster, once only a burst of white noise in the background, resolves into a voice in the distance.

    REPORTER (V.O.)

We’re standing live on the streets of Los Angeles. The President has declared martial law here, and what was once civil unrest has erupted into full-blown rioting. The National Guard was sent in to restore peace on Thursday, but soon joined the rioting. Panic is sweeping the nation.

We follow the signal to the TV van that was broadcasting the signal and exit the camera in the streets of L.A., where a tall blondehaired beautiful reporter is reporting knee deep in anarchy.

    EXT.CALIFORNIA.DAY

    REPORTER

As you can see behind me citizens and locals are being carried off in ambulances. I have not yet gotten word about the number of dead, but police estimate the number at several thousand. There is no sign of the violence slowing down… The state of the global economy in past months has turned what would be a civil issue into a global crisis. It seems that the whole world is holding its breath, waiting to see what the president will do.

She presses her index and middle fingers to her ear trying to hear what is coming in on her earpiece over the chaos around her.

    REPORTER

I’ve just received word that there has been a terrorist threat of nuclear proportions made against the White House. It seems that a middle-eastern terrorist group has seized control of and is turning our own ICBM’s against us.

Something far, far behind her steaks across the sky at a downward parabola, leaving a white trail. The reporter’s face goes pale and she looks frightened.

    REPORTER

I’ve just received word that the Government is considering more drastic measures…

Just then a huge flash engulfs the screen and we are thrust upward. Desperately, we try to escape the blast, but can’t.

    Screen goes white.

WORLD WAR 3 Fades up on the screen. Then Screen fades to black, reopening in a desert.

    EXT.DESERT.DAY

A voice over of a familiar voice by an unfamiliar character at this point, opens the scene. The voice belongs to a young lady named GENE. She speaks as we are drifting quickly over a landscape of dust and rock; the day turns to night and back again very rapidly.

    GENE(V.O.)

I can’t say for sure when it started. I wasn’t born yet. But in two days it will end. This is what happens when the rich make a living off of the poor.

I guess that’s why my Uncle always said an eye for an eye. But never like this. This isn’t the beginning, and this isn’t the end; but if all goes well, this will be the beginning of the end. The end of one man’s evil empire. Welcome to…

Title appears as Gene finishes her voice over.

    GENE(V.O.)

    Frontier America… Enjoy your stay.

As the credits roll, the sun and moon appear and disappear even more rapidly as we fly low over the earth.

The stars change position as we pick up even more speed.

Clouds cover the sky and snow begins to fall. Hills covered in snow glisten in the moonlight.

We see the construction of Frontier America, sped up.

Cut to a graduation ceremony (looks like a normal one today). The caps are thrown; the graduates are cheered by friends, relatives, teachers, and parents.

Cut to the camera following a car full of celebrating graduates. We don’t know it yet but the two graduates in the back seat are main characters.

AVERY a young woman with bright red hair. Avery sits on her boyfriend’s lap on the back of the very expensive convertible.

Her boyfriend is in his early twenties, and laughs as they speed past a cop car. The cop puts on his lights and starts to give chase. The car speeds up in response. The boy’s name is JONNY.

The camera breezes by Jonny’s laughing face as he takes the last chug of a rum bottle and throws it out of the speeding corvette.

In slow motion, we follow the bottle, the graduates’ car moves on, the cop car moves past with the police officer inside radioing for backup. As the bottle falls, the lighting changes from day into night. The once clean and well-swept street becomes dirty and full of trash. The music becomes darker. All the joy and freedom felt at the graduation scene is covered with sadness and anger. The bottle falls on the ground, and bursts into flames

We pull away from the flames to show a forgotten street in a neighborhood where God has turned his back on his people.

    EXT.FRONTIER AMERICA.NIGHT

Beside the flames is the burnt-out shell of a car that looks just like the one the graduates were driving.

    Riot scene:

    A rioter throws a firebomb.

An angry mob starts to wreck the place.

Police are sent in to disperse the crowd.

A reporter hides behind a van, safe from the panic and chaos.

A motorcycle drives by at high speed.

    Two people are on it.

It is Jonny and Avery, but we do not see their faces.

The back person falls off the bike after being shot.

The gunshot is louder than all the other chaos around.

We recognize Jonny’s face from seeing him in the graduation as he turns around in horror to see what had happened to Avery (who was on the back of the motorcycle).

The screen moves down to show the license plate. There is a large barcode directly above the license number. The quote on the bottom of the plate
