    FOREWORD

These lines dedicated to my friend Eduardo Mario Boetto are just a few of the many rich memories that come to my mind when I try to revisit the intricate paths of my life, a life which, due to various circumstances, impacted yours, Eduardo.

Just as the teeth of a gear grind every day with the chain that propels a machine forward, you dropped into my life. You always believed in hard work. You spent your time in the fields and in the office (which is no small thing for these desolate plains abandoned by its owners) together with your family; you worked the land, provided work for others, shared your business. You were a man of your word. I, who wanted to advance in the public service and in my side jobs, helped you with all your communication needs.

I always remember our conversations in the countryside, your family, your example, your experience. I never told you this, but I put into practice a lot of your advice and ideas and they never failed me because we were evidently on the same page and your view of life was correct. As Hamlet Lima Quintana says: Some people are simply so necessary.

In this eventful journey that life is, I want to tell you, Eduardo, that you have had a profound impact in my life. You have strengthened my values, and every conversation that we have had, in several circumstances, has been enriching for me. Your experience and knowledge became the main foundation of my daily growth. I still believe that man, in
