Introduction
YOU GOT THE BOOK. NOW WHAT?
Read it. Absorb it. Make it a part of your daily life. Everything in this guide is coming from someone who is an international student and who will successfully be transitioning to graduate and employee. Nobody said it was easy and this guide will ensure you know this fact.
As a current international student (yes, I am writing this book during my final year at a Canadian university), I discovered that the T.V. ads and promotional videos are all a fiasco (fake; not telling the whole truth; fictitious; you name it!). Nothing in those videos prepared me for life in Canada and it was truly a learning experience and I wish to share it with you to help you make better sense of what’s going on around you. It is with this in mind that I share my personal experiences with you as an International Student living in Canada.
There is no one way to live and certainly not one way to complete your university experience. This guide will offer scenarios, real life experiences, testimonials from other international students and solutions to common problems some of you incoming international students will face upon starting your journey to acquiring a Canadian university education.
Since this book is based on my personal experiences as a Jamaican living in Canada, it acts as a guide only and is made even more interesting by including experiences shared by my peers from different countries, which covers all of the continents! We each have our own experiences and had our own expectations, but our realities, while unique, provide more or less a similar outcome.
STILL WONDERING WHETHER YOU SHOULD COME TO CANADA?
Getting an education anywhere costs money… sometimes a lot of money; but it’s an investment in yourself and your future. Why not start planning for your future now?
One of the first thoughts I had was how expensive it would be to uproot myself from my homeland and start all over again. The thing that convinced me was my hunger for greatness! I always aim to be a better person for tomorrow than I am today, and that was what drove me to apply for university in Canada. It is expensive, but
