TABLE OF CONTENTS:
INTRODUCTION
I’ve been a performer for almost all of my life. I’ve worked in every aspect of the business: acting, directing, producing, makeup, lights, sets, production assistant, talent agent, casting director and more. I’ve been to hundred’s of auditions over the years and finally I realized that no one was thoroughly teaching film students how to actually run auditions. Film students are taught every other aspect of film making: directing, editing, production. Yet, the audition is critical. The cast will make or break your film. The audition sets the tone for the rest of the production. It’s where the actors and director meet for the first time. Actors are taught how to audition for you. Why aren’t you taught how to run auditions for them?
Do you want to make a good impression? Do you want to at least appear organized? More importantly, do you want the best actors? Do you want the actors that will be the best to work with? Then this is the book for you.
I have polled hundreds of actors and gotten their pet peeves about auditions, plus their suggestions. I’ve run plenty of auditions so I’ve seen them from both sides. I know what the actors are thinking, and I know what you’re thinking. Guess what?! It’s the same thing. The actor wants to be good and get the role and you want the actor to be good so you can give them the role. But if you are completely clueless at how to have them audition, then you will
