Tom Brooks
Something is wrong with Tom Brooks. It might be an illness, a syndrome, or disorder, but he finds auditioning as much of a blast as acting. He was always like this. He learned early on that most actors do not see it that way.He creates workshops so actors can discard their audition straitjacket and crash helmet. Why tolerate such restrictive garb? Instead, why not don a unique and revealing set of essential actor's headgear? Audition freedom is the subject of two eBooks he's written. Another is on the way. Each book came from workshops he developed for actors. After each, he provides ongoing support for the participants. To help handle all this, Tom started a business called The Empowered Actor Initiative. Its portal to this world is through EmpoweredActor.com. He chose that name because that's how he feels when he auditions, rehearses, and acts. He thinks you deserve to feel that way too. Tom writes the newsletter "Actor's Break" exclusively for stage actors. (All the info is on the website.)Tom has been a professional actor since 1981 and received his Master of Fine Arts Degree in 1987. He performed in Washington, D.C. for 23 months in the longest running non-musical play in American theater history, "Shear Madness." He taught budding actors for several years at Shenandoah Conservatory. He lives this life with his family in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Next to that, coaching actors, acting, and directing are his favorite things on the planet.

In my capacity as a professional theatre director and practicing actor, I have spent hundreds of hours in the audition room. Auditioning is an imperfect answer to the challenge of casting any entertainment project, but one all of us must come to terms with. For the actor, it can be anxiety provoking, and the hatefulness of the event often drives many a wonderful artist out of the business.
This fine book addresses the very issue the actor needs to master in order to thrive in the room. Tom's writing style is refreshing in its economy and direction. Every actor attempting to perfect their audition chops would be well served to adhere to this terrific book's tenets. And Tom is the real thing. With over 35 years of theatrical credits, he has come by his philosophy legitimately. The result is a very clear-headed guidance to the working actor.

About the Author
Preface
The content of this eBook is not about how to select audition material. It is about the power and opportunity available to you as an auditioning actor. It has always been available to you. This material is designed to expand your awareness and engage an alternative mindset.
This eBook is divided into five steps. The first three focus on you before you ever speak (which happens in the fourth step). The last step ties them all together.
Whether you are an experienced or novice actor, this book was penned to get into your head and rewire a couple of things. I do ask for an open mind, and a willingness to ingest into your psyche the methods herein as prescribed. Like getting into costume, you will make these methods your own. I have no intention of creating
