    In all exercise activities and sports, including the martial arts, it is common to experience frustration or boredom. It is important to realize this is a normal occurrence. However, how an individual deals with this determines what their skill and accomplishments will be in the long run.

    Everyone admires a world class athlete, singer, sports figure or entertainer. All these people have kept their goals in sight and continued to practice even when the desire or drive slows down. Each person has a personal potential both physically and mentally. By continuing to make the martial arts a part of your daily life, you give yourself the opportunity to strive towards your potential and to grow everyday of your life.

    Prior to starting any exercise-related activity including the martial arts, you should consult your physician.

    A complete warm-up and stretching program will help prevent common physical activity related injuries.

    The martial arts are meant for women and men of all ages. However, everyone is an individual and should pace him or herself accordingly. In time, with dedication and patience, the martial arts can be a vehicle to reach your mental and physical potential.

    Basic Martial Arts Information   

    History

    The Shaolin Temple is generally accepted as having the biggest influence on all existing martial arts today. Dating back to 520 BC, Bodhidharma traveled from India to the kingdom of Wei to spread Buddhism. This was during the Liang Dynasty in China. After a failed meeting with emperor Wu, Bodhidharma traveled to Honan province and the famed Shaolin Temple. It was here, after years of meditation, that he began to teach the monks the art of Shih Pa Lo Han
