About this ebook

In Serge Dahan’s second collection of poetry, Child of the Cosmos, he reveals his heart and his road of trials. In so doing, it is a book of self-knowledge and self-compassion. The poems seem to stand as a bridge between the illusory world and suffering and the soul that is ultimately a place of peace. These are poems that question our troubles and offer the reader freedom and solid ground.

Child of the Cosmos - Serge Dahan

    Child of the Cosmos

    Serge Dahan

I want to dedicate this book to all of humanity, who witness like me, this mystic journey of great beauty and trial.

    Symbiosis

We are awakened one by one

    To the truth of interconnectedness,

    Where everything new

    Depends on everything else;

Where we have known each other

From eons ago and where we at last meet,

    Not always recognizing our commonality

On this planet we chose to land.

We become indifferent and often hostile tribes,

Forgetting that we are one species.

When can we become loyal to the human race?

When can we stop the insanity of war,

The ferocious barbarism of our civilization,

And the agony of despair across the land?

The Earth—inescapable arena where we play

    Our own magnificent drama

And enjoy the necessary tension of our inescapable

Interrelations from millions of kalpas ago.

Is it in that difference among ourselves

    That we can grow?

Is it in that humanistic pulsion to eliminate

The claws of anger from within ourselves

That we can eradicate this repugnant morbidity

Of violence, utter destruction, systematic dehumanization?

    A symphony of spirits

Of souls and minds walks sometimes

Blind across the jungle of delusions,

Walks sometimes painfully across the desert

    Of doubts, walks sometimes tireless

Across highways built from fear, but always guided

By the only compass worth having, faith—

In the miracles of a child smiling, an old man in wonderment,

In the arts, culture, nature, sciences, philosophy,

Humanity, solidarity, and celebration of life.

Emerging Dancing, 24x24, acrylic on canvas

A Dance to the Rhythm of Life

    It escapes me at times,

    Flows swiftly, never considers

    Human feelings. A neutral force,

It is a wave we can choose to ride.

Following its own course, it embraces us

    If we
