Infinity
In this city, where people come to find their dreams, and experience the fun and excitement it has to offer, an evil is about to become a presence here and bring horror from the shadows…
Chapter 1
Death in Darkness
The night has fallen on the city and the street lights and neon glow almost make it appear as the sun is still shining. A comfort that the shadows, which keep its secrets hidden, is about to steal away from the unsuspecting. An evil plan that has been lying in waiting. Patiently waiting and building until tonight to take a deadly grip.
A beautiful woman steps onto the subway train, which she hopes will not be her means of transportation much longer. She came to this city looking for the chance at stardom. But like most, she waits tables at a diner to pay the bills until her big break comes. The subway takes her where she needs to go for now. The train comes to a stop and she exits the car and up to the streets above. She has a short walk to her humble apartment from here. As she walks down the sidewalk, rehearsing her not an uncommon feeling in the neighborhood she has found the most affordable rent on her current budget. As she walks, she hurries through the small dark areas between the street lights. Only a block from her apartment building she notices the street light near the front flickering dimly. So she
hurries her steps to make it from the light she felt safe in, to the steps of her building. But, as she makes a few steps into the shadows, something grabs her. There was not time to scream, as she lied there in the darkness, her dreams she had wanted passed away just as she did.
A short time later, a man headed to meet some friends for drinks, is waiting near the street to catch a taxi cab. His cell phone rings as he is about to hail a taxi, and misses the ride as he attempts to answer his phone. Hey man, where you at? You better not flake out tonight! It is going to be a fun night, not going to talk about her or your problems!
the voice on the phone tells him. Ok, I’m on my way man, chill. You made me miss my ride,
the man replies. He hangs up and begins walking down the sidewalk in the direction of the bar, hoping he can catch the next taxi to go by. As he passes by a darkened stairwell, he hears someone moaning as though they are hurt below. He walks toward the stairwell, Hey you ok down there? You fall or something?
the man asks down the stairs. He begins to walk down the stairs toward the moaning, Do you need help? I can call for help if you need it,
he inquires to the source of the moaning. But as he pulls out his cell phone, before he can flip it open, he is suddenly jerked further down the stairs and feels a sharp pain and coldness in his body. He tries to yell, but no sound comes out. He feels the warmth of something moving down his chest. His need to help others was the fatal decision he made tonight. The street light in the distance begins to dim; he struggles for air, then only darkness. His last glimpse was of a figure moving between him and the light above.
By morning there will be other victims finding the same fate. It has begun, the evil has started its way into this city where normally people come to chase dreams. But soon it will be nightmares they will find. Giving the cities homicide detectives more than just the ‘routine’ violence they have worked on most occasions. Though there have been homicides in this city, they are mostly attributed to domestic disputes, drug deals gone bad, or someone pissed off at another and went a little too far. However, what they are about to deal with is not like anything else they have seen. This is only evil in its purist form.
AS the sun begins to shed light on the dark shadows from the night, the police department will be responding to of chilling reports of apparent slayings of common people. Possibly muggings gone bad, if not for the odd details left on the victim’s bodies. But, for one detective and his team assigned to the murders, they will find that this is not going to be the normal cases they are accustomed to working and solving.
Chapter 2
Puzzle pieces
Detective Jacobs is on his way into the station when he makes his normal stop at the bagel shop. While he waits on his usual order, he notices the breaking news on the television hanging on the wall. The reporter is telling about multiple homicide victims that had been discovered throughout the city. Hey Gene, forget the order. I got to get to the station. Looks like it is going to be a busy day,
Jacobs yells to the shop owner.
Jacobs arrives at the station to find the building has become apparent headquarters for all of the local news stations. He hurries past the many reporters giving broadcasts, and obviously waiting on some authority to come give a statement. Jacobs has never been a fan of the media, so he doesn’t hesitate to elude any requests for information. He enters the building and heads straight for his captains office.
Detective Jacobs steps into the captain’s office, ready to be briefed on the reports that had been coming in through the night. Jacobs, glad you could join us. Hope you are ready to put in some long hours on this. But I have no doubt you will have it wrapped up before your retirement party,
Captain Jackson sarcastically throws at him. Come on Captain, you know this kind of thing could take longer than I have to go to retire. Can’t you put some of those ‘greens’ on this one? I am sure they are chomping at the bit to get in on this,
Jacobs argues getting this case. "Well I’m glad you suggest that
