    Every clang rang and reverberated deep into the soil as the noise seemed to travel for miles. It was a choir with never ending vocals. Sometimes, it was discrete behind the chirping of crickets. Other times it was the metronome to a hangover headache.

    Bo despised the pumpjacks, as their clamor became a constant annoyance. He imagined in his nightmares that ticks burrowed deep below his skin, as he awoke to the need to scratch an itch.

    The movement awakened Clara who shared his bed and sometimes provided him with relief, but he didn’t want to think too much about that relationship.

    Morning. Clara propped her head up with a second pillow. Coffee?

    Bo turned his head toward her. Top it off with Tenzan. Sakehelped with his headaches and the monotony of rural life.

    Clara sighed. Why did Catherine turn hostile when she found the Tenzan bottle? She circled her fingers over the scar tissue behind his ear. The scar healed well to the point it was only a blemish.

    She did. Indeed. Bo smirked. How did you find it? He removed her hand away from his neck as he looked into her eyes.

    I had made brunch for Noah. She paused as she felt that she had misspoke. There was a definite connection
