Dan Brock

Dan Brock grew up in Kent, Washington loving science fiction and fantasy stories. He loved watching movies and TV shows with space ships and laser gun battles. He started in elementary school by writing a story called The Freeze Ray which the school published for the library. Unfortunately, the book was lost and the story only remains in Dan’s mind. Over the next several years, he’s written various other stories. Somewhere in there, he began writing poetry and scripts for stage productions, many of which have been performed by a professional theater group. At one point, he had a book published of ghost stories and tales of paranormal encounters that he wrote with some input from his brother that he’s currently working on redoing. In addition to writing he is also an accomplished musician, stage actor and artist. He runs an art production company, a Christian record label and now a publishing house. Dan currently resides in Auburn, Washington with his wife.

This is an updated reprint of the story Galactic Brigade in Somewhere Out There published by Publish America.  The Publish America version had many errors from the publisher in it that I wanted to correct.  I also wanted to put it out as a standalone book in the Galactic Brigade series.

Roughly translated, this book is how the story was originally supposed to be.  I would like to thank you for taking the time to read the first book in the series, and hope that you enjoy it along with future installments.

This is odd, he said to himself. I wonder what it is.

He began searching for a way to open it. After about forty-five minutes of trying, he was just about to give up and dismiss it as his boredom messing with his mind. When suddenly he saw what looked like a small box out of the corner of his eye. It was down at the end of the hall; up in the corner. He quickly rushed over and seeing it was in fact a box made to look like part of the wall, took it down. When he opened it he saw that there were six keys inside. Then he noticed that on the secret door, about waist high, there was a section of about a square inch that was just a little bit shinier than the rest of the wall. He managed to open this section of wall to find a keyhole. When he tried a key, the door opened to reveal a small room about the size of crewmembers quarters. Judging by the dust content in the room, he concluded that no one had been inside in a long time. He went in to have a look around, and began dusting some of the things within the room when an idea struck him. He pushed the speak button on his wrist communicator.

This is Lieutenant Commander Elyza calling Communications Officer Twila, come in please.

He was met with a reply of static. He tried again several times with the same result. Then, from a stroke of curiosity, he stepped back out into the hall and tried. This time he was met with a more friendly reply.

Lieutenant Commander Elyza, this is Communications Officer Twila, please state the nature of your business.

Hello Twila, can you do me a big favor and meet me in the officers arcade after your shift? He replied.

It was good just to hear her voice. It was a good weapon against his boredom.

"Elyza if the admiral finds out that I’m making a date during my shift, I’ll stand a very good chance at getting demoted. So this better be good," she was whispering to try to avoid being overheard by the admiral or commodore.

Just be there. You won’t be sorry, Elyza insisted.

He ended the transmission and went back into the room. He wanted to know why he couldn’t transmit from the inside. Upon careful inspection, he realized that the walls were magnetized on the inside. And the magnetic field made it impossible to transmit in or out of the room. Which meant that scanners couldn’t penetrate the room either, which really added to his plan.

There was an old fashion computer on a desk that was in the corner of the room. After about fifteen minutes of fiddling, he managed to get into its system. Among the features were the original blue prints of the Angelica. He found the room he was in, and a description of what it was.

On the bridge, Ensign Twila was at her communications consul. She could hardly wait for her shift to end, so she could have her little date with her best friend, Lieutenant Commander Elyza. She cared a lot for the second officer of Blue Squadron. When she was very young, he had saved her life on the moon of the planet Zion. She was lost and severely injured.
