Am I writing this because I’m an expert on marriage? Yes. At the time of printing, Adalis & I are celebrating 15 years of marriage, over double the national average. So, unfortunately, I’m an expert.

In a generation of divided homes & broken families, it is our desire that your story is different. Broken marriages cause so much pain to so many people. I want you & your children to never know that pain.

Marriage was created by God to bring a greater magnitude of joy to man’s life. Truly, I can testify that when marriage is cultivated, it brings the best of this life to you.

A joyous marriage is not an accident. There are simple but important ingredients that destroy Satan’s attempts to break apart what God has joined together.

INTRODUCTION

Jesus said, "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

The Bible teaches that you can choose to build your house, your life, and your marriage on the rock of God’s Word. You can also choose to be like a foolish man and build your marriage on the shifting sand.

According to Psychology Today and the American Psychological Association, the divorce rate has more than doubled across the world in the nearly four decades between 1970 and 2008. In 1970, the average rate was 2.6 divorces for every 1,000 married people. In 2008, the number jumped to 5.5 for every 1,000 married people. In 2019, the United States ranked third out of all countries measured, with a nearly 50% divorce rate.

Divorce is harsh.

Many Christians will say, I’m against divorce.

If you talk to divorced people, they’re against it too.

Divorce hurts everybody involved. If you grew up in a home broken by divorce, you know what I mean. Divorce can make for a miserable childhood.

But God has given us instruction in His Word so that you don’t have to suffer the casualty of divorce. You can build your house on the rock of God’s Word, and it won’t fail.

The foolish man’s default is backsliding, poverty, sickness, and premature death. It takes faith to go and possess everything God has for you. It also takes instruction from the Word of God.

Many people enter marriage thinking it’s just a man and a woman occupying the same house as a means of convenience or survival. There may be communication early in the relationship, but eventually it corrodes and becomes forced toleration.
