    Sutra 1

    athato bhaktim vyakhyasyamaha

    atha - now; atah - therefore; bhaktim - loving devotion; vyakhyasyamaha

    Now the meaning of the loving devotion is explained

    Bhakti is loving devotion to the personal form of the God. God has everything else except our love. Bhakti is the highest samadhi (meditative absorption). Bhakti is natural love towards the source of the self. And time for bhakti is now. Life is meant for God realization. It is natural state of the soul and it comes from the bhaktas. Narada is pure devotee of the Supreme and thus he knows the science of bhakti.

    Sutra 2

    sa tv asmin parama-prema-rupa

    sa - it; tu - and; asmin - for Him; parama - highest; prema - spiritual love; rupa- having as it’s form

    Bhakti is highest spiritual love for the Supreme.

    Bhakti is the culmination of all love. One can not go higher. Bhakti is pure loving devotion towards the personal manifestation of the Supreme. Love between the Jiva and Isvara, soul and the God, is the highest form of the love. By loving the Supreme, one learns to love everyone else too. As a parts of the complete whole.

    Sutra 3

    amrta svarupa ca

    amrta - immortality; svarupa - form; ca - and

    And it is essentially eternal

    Bhakti is the essence of the soul. It is our eternal nature to be lovingly devoted to Supreme. Bhakti is the pure nature of the eternal living beings. It is eternal nature of the soul. Soul is eternal, bhakti is eternal and thus it is a eternal state of loving devotion to the personal form of the God.

    Sutra 4

    yal labdha puman siddho bhavaty amrto bhavati trpto bhavati

    yat - which;labdhvā - having gained;pumān - a person;siddhaḥ - perfect;bhavati - becomes;amṛtaḥ - immortal;bhavati - becomes;tṛptaḥ - peaceful;bhavati - becomes.

    Upon achieving the state of bhakti, person becomes perfect, eternal and peaceful

    We are spiritually perfect, peaceful and eternal. Bhakti removes the veneer of illusion and helps us to experience our original position as a pure spirit souls. Bhakti will take us back to our real form as a spiritual units of consciousness. Real peace can be experienced only through the loving devotion to the Supreme Lord.

    Sutra 5

    yat prapya na kincid vanchati na socati na dvesti na ramate notsahi bhavati

    yat - which;prāpya - having attained;na kiñcit - nothing;vāñchati - hankers for;na śocati - does not lament;na dveṣṭi - does not hate;na ramate -
