Experiencing the Fruit of the Spirit - Janene Dampier

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB)

    Introduction

Ihad just completed the teaching series Experiencing the Fruits of the Spirit and I was convicted to put this into a booklet. This series was more for me than for those I was teaching. It impacted me in a profound way. The reason for this was from James 2:17 , " In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." You see, we Christians cannot just claim to be Christians, we are called to be Christians, in other words, act as Christians.

I hope and pray this little book impacts you in some small way, or in a profound way, as it has impacted me.

Experiencing the Fruits of the Spirit is based on Galatians 5:22-23. I did not write them in the order in which they appear in Scripture.

    This book is for you!

It is not a coincidence that you are holding this book right now, reading this very page. God has a plan and a calling and a purpose for your life. He calls us all to three things in life: salvation, sanctification and service. You have already been saved and Holy Spirit is now working in you, in your sanctification.

So, you are not reading this by accident. You are fearfully and wonderfully made - and important enough for God - that He would be speaking to you through this little book, written by an intern lay pastor in a tiny church, in a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere.

So, I am praying for you as you read these words right now, I pray that you encounter God through these pages and that you are blessed as you read this. As you are obedient to God’s calling on your life to sanctification, I pray that you are overwhelmed with God’s love for you.

God’s love is our one constant, our most absolute truth. No matter what, God loves you, He knows you, He likes you and He wants the best life possible for you! He chose you, Beloved.

As we move into our experience, I pray that you are blessed by this book.

    Experiencing Joy

This whole teaching series was inspired by an acronym I received, and that was the acronym of joy, JOY. If this acronym is applied to our lives, we will not be able to contain the joy we experience.

The first letter in the acronym JOY is the letter J, and whose name that is above all names starts with the letter J? That’s right, Jesus! So if we put Jesus first - if we honour Him with our hearts, our lives, our work, our relationships, if we focus on Jesus and put Him first - "the joy of the Lord will be our strength," as found in Nehemiah 8:10. Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice. Philippians 4:4. And 1 Thessalonians 2:20 says, "Indeed, You (Jesus) are our glory and JOY."

Joy is not happiness. You can be mourning and have joy. You can be struggling with something and still have joy. Joy is not happiness, and happiness is not joy. Jesus is the source of joy and joy is a fruit of the Spirit. You will know true joy, continuous joy, when you put Jesus first in your life and you are filled with Holy Spirit. When we take our burdens to Jesus, when we have a relationship with Jesus, when we make Him Lord of our life and honour Him, we will experience true joy.
