About this ebook

Our world is in agony. What's the antidote and how do we inject it?

There are billions of good people with a desire to do what's right and thousands of proposed solutions to the dilemmas that assail our planet. Why can't humankind make more progress toward stable prosperity and peace of mind for all peoples? Somehow, something is holding us back, putting a damper on initiatives and good will.

The Bible refers to a Serpent as the culprit behind human mind manipulation and sorrow. But who wants to take the Bible at face value, especially when it refers to a talking animal and the myth of a tree with forbidden fruit?! The narrative appears as whimsical nonsense, an affront to critical thinking.

Sam Kneller takes you behind the scene. English, or any other translation, cannot do justice to the original scriptures. He reveals a unique method to unlock Bible meaning with his acclaimed study course, 7 Keys to master Biblical Hebrew.

You can easily grasp the deep meaning behind the reality of a malevolent spirit being. A conquering tyrant wielding awesome powers. Discover the Serpent's strategy as the all-time best influencer of human consciousness. It broadcasts fake news and counterfeit wisdom directly into the human mind. Our worst nightmares don't hold a candle to the corruption and confusion it disseminates with uncanny ease. We unsuspecting, naïve humans lap it up like a pack of thirsty jack-asses as the lions crouch, ready to pounce on a mentally abused prey.

On the bright side, the life-saving antidote is readily available, but humanity is blind to its presence, wisdom and potency. Learn how to take the blinders off, see the obstacles and overcome the fiery dragon. It can be done, but will we have the insight, stamina and fortitude to exercise our free will and follow that positive pathway?

Now you can explore the original significance of Biblical Hebrew, like Sheli, "It is something I have been searching for, a way to get past the translations and get to the deeper meaning of God's word."

Don't settle for just any How to Fix Humankind books that invade the bookstores. This straightforward, no-holds barred, deep-dive into the why and what of the spiritual disintegration behind our planet's turmoil is a must read. Journey from the dark of deceit and despair, to the light of truth and peace of mind with honest, attainable how-to solutions. Engage in understanding the Agony of Humankind and identifying the Antidote to save our nation and answer the big questions in life.

Agony of Humankind and the Antidote - Sam Kneller

    Preface: State of the world

With a fifth of the 21st century almost gone, what have we got to show for it? The progress and regress of world society.

What’s the state of the world in 2020? Greta Thunberg is Time magazine’s person of the year. She epitomizes the agony of humankind. When a 16-year-old girl, barely wet behind the ears, has to fight for a global crisis; what a paradox. Adolescents should mature and enjoy their teen years. Instead, she’s scrambling around the world, screaming at deaf governmental ears.

The title of this book, the seventh in The Explanation series, sounds pessimistic, and we could take it that way. The Explanation prefers to call it a realistic look at our world today. There’s lots of good going on daily. The last book, Origin of Woman, ended extremely positively. The first two humans formed one flesh and were naked and not ashamed, (Genesis 2:24-25). Recollect, this means they were in a harmonious marriage relationship and were wise and not confused. God’s wisdom had taught them, and proper thoughts and actions animated their minds. Please refresh your understanding of these points, using the links, if need be.

The cover closed on the optimistic Origin of Woman, the sixth book, the curtain-raiser of human civilization. And suddenly we’re plunged, seemingly, into a nightmare scenario. It definitely warrants an explanation. This could appear gloomy or defeatist, and agony is just that. What’s even worse is if you don’t know the CAUSE of that agony or there’s confusion about its origin. Too many cooks spoil the broth. We’ve got conflicting concepts, divided solutions, we don’t know which to apply. We don’t know the root causes and are trying to patch major issues with band-aids.

The degrading scenario in Genesis 3 replaces the harmony, wisdom, and absence of confusion of Genesis 2. From the Garden of Eden bliss, we deep-dive into a murky abyss. Transpose this to the 21st century. The world has got serious problems and we’re doing our best to minimize them. Even if some are speaking about the gravity of the situation.

More than 11,000 scientists co-signed a new paper declaring a climate emergency, warning that climate change is leading us towards untold human suffering.

In yet another confirmation from the scientific community about the undeniable environmental threat we’re facing due to reckless human activity, 11,000 scientists from 153 different countries have clearly and unequivocally declared a climate emergency, warning the world of untold human suffering unless we radically change our currently-unsustainable way of life.

Scientists have a moral obligation to clearly warn humanity of any great existential threat, they said in the paper, published in BioScience magazine on Tuesday. To secure a sustainable future, we must change how we live ... [This] entails major transformations in the ways our global society functions and interacts with natural ecosystems.

Agony of Humankind will address key world problems head-on. It will explain what is right and what is wrong. And, more importantly, this book will reveal the cause of these problems. What is at the root, sapping humanity of the strength it’s trying to muster to overcome its agony? Every effect has a cause and motivation. Forensic police investigators are always trying to get to the psychological bottom of their criminal case this way. This seventh book investigates the underlying positive inspiration and negative provocation, the mental and spiritual stimulation behind the state of the world in 2020. This book is about genuine answers and solutions to pressing unanswered questions and situations.

Books don’t solve problems, people do. Books explain, but only people carry out solutions. Agony of Humankind and the Antidote is not a quickie remedy or the cure-all solution. It will be explicit and revealing. It will go to the crux of the problem and clearly explain the causes and reasons for the ills assailing civilization worldwide. It will offer applicable solutions. This book will show you similar situations requiring drastic measures, that, when applied, turned disaster into triumph. The bottom line, however, is human awareness of the proper course of action. Get ready for some eye-openers.

There’s plenty of good, but currently, the bad outweighs the good

Some current trends, scientists note, are positive, such as a declining birth rate across the world, a rise in using renewables, and an increasing level of international awareness. Unfortunately, negative trends far outweigh the positive, including a rise in meat consumption, a sped up rate of deforestation that’s rapidly and irreparably destroying crucial ecosystems for quick money-grabs, and a dramatic rise in global carbon emissions.

And though public awareness regarding the state of the world is changing for the better, it’s not doing so quickly enough.

Headed by William Ripple and Christopher Wolf of Oregon State University, the immense group of researchers said in their statement that climate change is accelerating faster than most scientists had previously estimated, adding that, despite 40 years of global climate negotiations, with few exceptions, we have generally conducted business as usual and have largely failed to address this predicament.

We could display positive and negative statistics all day long about Extreme Poverty, GDP per capita, Population Child Mortality, Fertility Rate, Life Expectancy, Hunger and Undernourishment, Education—years of schooling and literacy, Access to improved water sources and sanitation, Energy Access, Energy Use, CO2 emissions. But that doesn’t explain the basics.

Why has this state of the world come about? We could blame government, leadership, politics, greed, egoism and many other characteristics. But can someone please make sense out of all these conflicting conundrums the world and individuals face? Agony of Humankind will get down to these basic, rock-bottom answers.

The Explanation built this book on all 6 former books of the series. The previous books have already established the foundation. Theology, the sacred book, could it be the Bible, God, the characters, the reason for humankind on Earth (rulership and relations). You know The Explanation does not consider the Bible a fairy tale. Understanding Biblical Hebrew is the basis of this work. Studying the course Unlock Bible meaning with the 7 keys to master Biblical Hebrew and using the free online tools, will help you easily verify all I write.

The last two books, Origin of Humankind and Origin of Woman; the story of humans on Earth are the introduction to Agony of Humankind. Why? Because they relate the creation of humankind in Genesis 2 just before we get into Genesis 3.

We will continue with the Biblical Hebrew. In fact, the very last verse of Genesis 2 and the very first verse of Genesis 3 contain the SAME Hebrew word that launched me on the Biblical Hebrew pathway. This ONE WORD, aram  (עָרַם) in Hebrew, is the link between the two chapters and the main issue of humankind’s dilemma. The King James version translates aram naked in Gen. 2:25 and subtle in Genesis 3:1. Understanding this one point and the in-depth meaning and consequences will open up the comprehension of the state of the world in 2020.

    Origin of the Agony

The question of the origin of the Agony or the origin of Evil which creates Agony has always intrigued thinkers. Possibly the most famous book to address this issue is Milton’s Paradise Lost. Well-known philosophers and especially psychologists, who consult with deranged minds daily have delved into these questions. One of the latest thinkers to do so is Jordan Peterson. A remarkable analyzer of prolific classic literature, a man of tremendous hands-on experience of some of the most depraved behavior of human beings. He possesses both the theoretical intellectual knowledge and analytics as well as the practical clinical experience to synthesize answers and solutions. One of his unusual but oh so precious specialties, some would say quirks, is his amalgamation of Biblical and religious instruction with scientific research.

His latest book, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, is a marvel at synthesizing the basics for sane living. The title, possibly unbeknown to him, contains a key element of Genesis 2:25 and Genesis 1:2. Chaos is an apt description of tohu va bohu—without form and void (Gen. 1:2), and ashamed (Gen. 2:25). Wrestling against the demons of chaos is the lot that has befallen humankind. And, as we shall see, there are practical combat steps we can take.

Dr. Norman Doidge, author of The Brain that changes itself, to which I have often referred in both Inventory of the Universe and Audit of Humankind, wrote the introductory preface,. It expounds on issues obviously to do with the human brain, but The Explanation draws mainly on the references to the human mind.

The conversations of Doidge and Peterson, with candor and simplicity, broach fundamental subjects of prime significance relating to the Agony of Humankind. A few quotes from that introduction follow. They express the foundational questions for which we need genuine answers. Read the Forward of Peterson’s book here.

Maps of Meaning was sparked by Jordan’s agonized awareness, as a teenager growing up in the midst of the Cold War, that much of mankind seemed on the verge of blowing up the planet to defend their various identities. He felt he had to undertahnd how it could be that people would sacrifice everything for an identity, whatever that was. And he felt he had to understand the ideologies that drove totalitarian regimes to a variant of that same behaviour: killing their own citizens. In Maps of Meaning, and in this book (12 Rules for Life), one of the matters he cautions readers to be most wary of is ideology, no matter who is peddling it or to what end.

This one paragraph sums up all the contradictions befuddling humankind. Their dual nature of digging out the soil from under their feet. It’s like digging one’s own grave or shooting yourself in the foot. Humankind seems to be its own worst enemy. We’re digging deeper and deeper and more and more holes to bury ourselves. And we don’t know why! As Doidge describes Peterson, it’s agonizing. There’s a lack of understanding of the depravity to which humankind lowers itself.

My (Dr. Doidge) own dissatisfaction with modern political science’s attempts to understand the rise of Nazism, totalitarianism and prejudice was a major factor in my decision to supplement my studies of political science with the study of the unconscious, projection, psychoanalysis, the regressive potential of group psychology, psychiatry and the brain. ... Jordan switched out of political science for similar reasons. ... we didn’t always agree on the answers ... but we almost always agreed on the questions.

Answers are elusive, there’s no doubt. But the questions are the same and, on top of it, universal. There’s much literature, but we’re short on answers. The goal of Agony of Humankind is to assemble the pieces in coherent completeness. A lofty quest. Join me for the voyage.

Above all, he alerted his students to topics rarely discussed in university, such as the simple fact that all the ancients, from Buddha to the biblical authors, knew what every slightly worn-out adult knows, that life is suffering. If you are suffering, or someone close to you is, that’s sad. But alas, it’s not particularly special. We don’t suffer only because politicians are dimwitted, or the system is corrupt, .... but because we are born human, and we are guaranteed a good dose of suffering. And chances are, if you or someone you know is not suffering now, they will be within five years, unless you are ... lucky. Rearing kids, aging, sickness, death are hard. Doing that on your own, without the benefit of a loving relationship, or wisdom, or the psychological insights of the greatest psychologists, only makes it harder.

The agony is the suffering. And again, like the questions we ask, this suffering is universal. The Bible refers to it as the groaning of Creation. Why, why, why is there so much groaning? We shall see.

When the ancient Greeks sailed to India and elsewhere, they too discovered that rules, morals and customs differed from place to place, and saw that the explanation for what was right and wrong was often rooted in some ancestral authority. The Greek response was not despair, but a new invention: philosophy.

Socrates, reacting to the uncertainty bred by awareness of these conflicting moral codes, decided that instead of becoming a nihilist, a relativist or an ideologue, he would devote his life to the search for wisdom that could reason about these differences, ie:, he helped invent philosophy. He spent his life asking perplexing, foundational questions, such as What is virtue? and How can one live the good life? and What is justice? and he looked at different approaches, asking which seemed most coherent and most in accord with human nature. These are the kinds of questions that I believe animate this book (12 Rules of Life).

Humanity has reached a crossroads. It has the possibility of Artificial Intelligence and Transhumanism which, according to science, offer us a bright future. It also has the possibility for self-annihilation both instantly with nuclear weapons and slowly by asphyxiating our planetary resources. Our inability to agree on a moral code for each of us individually coupled with how to govern our future world and upcoming generations globally amplifies this dilemma.

Agony of Humankind, the seventh book of the series, The Explanation with Sam Kneller, will take you to the source of both the questions and the answers. We can’t deny the bad and sweep it under the carpet. It’s there and we have to explain it and offer viable solutions. Such is our journey.

    1. The Serpent

Subtil Serpent, Key to God's Plan

The meaning of subtil serpent is essential for understanding its role in the Plan of God.

The meaning of the subtil Serpent is its malicious wisdom, in contrast to Adam and Eve's virtuous perception. Awareness of this single principle opens up Bible understanding.

The meaning of the subtil Serpent in the first verse of Genesis 3 is a 180° switch from Genesis 2.  It is in contrast to the pure state of mind of Adam and Eve in the last verse of the preceding chapter. The introduction to the Serpent is capital to understanding the opening scenes of the Bible. Let's grasp its role in the Agony of Humankind.

We left Adam and Eve in the idyllic setting of the Garden of Eden in a state of nakedness (H6174 from H6191 aram) associated with the wisdom, prudence, and purity of their minds. They’d spent time with God and learned He placed them on earth for two primary purposes: To serve and honor their Creator and subdue and dominate this planet as a couple with their descendants.

So then, why does Chapter 3 open with the presence of that wily Serpent who turns this plan upside down, or does it? Or, to go a step further, can this Serpent upset the desires of Almighty God?

    Genesis 2:25, 3:1

25 And they were both naked (H6174), the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

1 Now the Serpent was more subtil (H6175) than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, Yea, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And we come to possibly the biggest Bible obscurity, the most misunderstood mystery, not to say fairy tale of all time.

We must broach a brief history of this Serpent because getting this piece right is paramount to comprehending The Explanation. Whether we like it, believe it, accept it or not, the Serpent has a central role to play. And it’s in line for an Oscar statuette, because its acting is outstanding. The only descriptive used here to describe its character is subtle, or subtil in King James' English. This single trait illustrates the WHY and WHO of the Serpent. It is the inventor and master of subtlety. To where 99.9% of humanity thinks this Serpent thing is all a farce and hoax. And for those who believe there may be something to this devil thing, the origin and depth of the deception are thoroughly out of focus.

Common questions are, If God is good, how come there’s evil? If God is so powerful, why didn’t or doesn’t He put an end to evil? "Life is difficult enough as it is, what’s the point of a devil? Just like the God theory, isn’t the Devil theory just a man-made concept to subjugate naïve believers?" And the questions go on and on. It's time for some straightforward answers.

    Naked and subtil

Let’s show the exact shape of this piece, the meaning of the subtil Serpent, and where it fits in the puzzle of God's plan.

Please watch the video. Here's the content.

Let's dig into this Biblical Hebrew enigma I found some 30 years ago. Follow along by going to UnlockBibleMeaning.com. On that screen, under References, find the Genesis Chapter 2 verse 25, click on Go. You'll read, And they were both naked, the both refers to Adam and Eve. In the very next verse, Genesis 3:1, we read: Now the Serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field.

I won't go any further to remain focused on what I found some 30 years ago. I read this in the Interlinear Bible and noticed the words naked and subtil are identical in the Hebrew. To see this at UnlockBibleMeaning.com, switch to Strong's Concordance where you'll spot the same verses, they were both naked with naked carrying Strong's Hebrew reference H6174. Click on that reference, and it will display in the right-hand column.

Now, go down to Genesis 3:1, "The Serpent was more subtil" (H6175). These two numbers follow each other. When you look at the Hebrew, even if you can't read it, you’ll recognize these four letters for naked and subtil are identical. The only difference is the third letter vav (we're reading from right to left), where the dot is above or in the middle. That gives it the distinct sound, AROM, or ARUM, as you can gather from the transliteration. But the four letters are identical. Note both words naked and subtil derive from H6191. Click on H6191 and notice this word is the primitive root.

The primitive root is the most basic construction of a word. Look at this three-letter array, you'll realize these letters are identical to the above two terms, naked and subtil. Except for the third letter, vav, which is missing, because this format uses it as a vowel. Toward the end of Strong's references you’ll find KJV [King James Version] followed by the various translations the translators attributed to each word. In various places in the Old Testament, ARAM (H6191), translates beware, take crafty counsel, be prudent, and deal subtilely. Likewise, we see ARUM (H6175) includes subtil, and AROM (H6174) has only one translation, naked.

Please go to UnlockBibleMeaning and check this for yourself. The Explanation sounds somewhat technical, but seeing it with your eyes is vital for your understanding. It will help you grasp this is a valid method of Bible Study. We're digging into the meanings, not the interpretations of Biblical Hebrew. In this Bible Study example to do with the meaning of the subtil Serpent, we're delving into Key 1 of the 7 Keys to Master Biblical Hebrew. Key one is the same Hebrew word can have multiple meanings. Here aram means both naked and subtle.

What is interesting is one basic word ARAM translates in one instance (Gen. 2:25) naked and, in a second instance, in the very next verse (Gen. 3:1), subtil. When I saw that, which you CANNOT SEE IN TRANSLATIONS, but only in Biblical Hebrew, it amazed me. I couldn't figure out why this was so. Especially when I later found out there are seven other Hebrew words translated naked and three translated subtil.

My question was: Why did the author use the same word in two verses that follow one another? It took me months to figure out and work through.

Because in one sense, the author is telling us to INVERT the meaning of this word. The author is saying Adam and Eve were subtil, and the Serpent was naked. Now when you think about a naked Serpent, it's ridiculous. To me, something was missing; the comprehension wasn't there. It's this study method I'm showing you that helped me find the answer, because there is a fascinating one.

    Our Biblical Hebrew Mission

Our mission is to figure out how both Adam and Eve and the Serpent could all be aram. How they could all be both naked and subtle. To do that, we have to dig into the meaning of the word ARAM.

Back to the Bible tools at UnlockBibleMeaning.com. This tool will allow you to study the word aram and all its derivatives directly. For now, use Word and Phrase and search for the word subtilty, using the King James spelling; you'll find three verses in the Old Testament in Genesis, 2 Kings, and Proverbs. Switch over to Strong's to find if any of these have the same root ARAM. In Proverbs 1:4, subtilty has the root H6195 with our three root letters ARM (ערם right-to-left). It comes from H6193, which is OREM, which also has our three key letters and goes back to our primitive root H6191 ARAM. So this word relates to the ARAM of subtle and naked we are studying.

    Proverbs 1:4

To give subtilty (H6195) to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

The subtilty we're discussing here is positive because the young man wants and needs this subtilty; this is NOT the same subtilty describing the Serpent, because its subtilty is negative. In the right pane on your screen for H6195, the words used by the King James translators reveal something very, very interesting.

    H6195

עׇרְמָה ʻormâh or-maw'; feminine of H6193 (עֹרֶם); trickery; or (in a good sense) discretion:

KJV - guile, prudence, subtilty, wilily, wisdom.

We have the words guile, prudence, subtilty, wilily, and wisdom. Some of these words could be negative, and some of them could be positive, and some of them could be both. We saw subtilty concerning the Serpent is negative. We now see a much more specific word, which is negative, guile. When guile characterizes a person, it’s destructive. We'll see an example of how ARAM is guile and guile is ARAM.

Let's stay positive with the word wisdom and see where it coincides with ARAM. At the bottom of Strong's reference for H6195 is a link to Hebrew Concordance for H6195. Click that, and all the Bible verses with this Hebrew word will display in the left pane. Note Proverbs 8:5.

    Proverbs 8:5

O you simple, understand wisdom (H6195): and, you fools, be you of an understanding heart.

Wisdom is H6195, the same as our word for subtilty. Is it positive or negative? The wisdom here is for the simple, so they understand; this is positive wisdom. ARAM can be positive; that is very clear.

Now let's look at the word guile. We continue to use the Hebrew concordance for H6195, which leads us to the first reference in Exodus.

    Exodus 21:14

But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile (H6195); you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.

In this verse, the guile is negative. We have the same word ARAM describing Adam and Eve, on one side, and the Serpent on the other. It is positive for wisdom, the right craftiness, subtlety and prudence. It is also negative for a wrong subtlety, specifically as translated here, with the word guile.

We're beginning to understand the subtlety and nakedness referring to the subtil Serpent are negative. Whereas the wisdom, prudence and subtlety referring to Adam and Eve are positive characteristics.

    Further Bible Study

I cannot insist enough you go to UnlockBibleMeaning.com and do this study yourself. There'll be a short adaptation period as you get used to using the Bible tools there. But it will be well worth your while. This study method will quickly become invaluable for checking the DEEPER meaning of Biblical Hebrew words. Aram, translated naked and subtle, reveals the first two keys to master Biblical Hebrew.

    Hebrew words have multiple meanings.

Hebrew words can have opposite or conflicting meanings.

This point is practically UNKNOWN to scholars, yet it is fundamental to comprehension as we've seen from just this one example. Adam and Eve and the Serpent all have ARAM, but their ARAM is entirely different.

We already have seen Adam and Eve had clean, clear, unconfused minds.

We’ll see just how dirty and confused the mind of the Serpent is.

As we progress, we'll see all the other keys. Let's start our study of the Agony of Humankind and the Antidote, a commentary on Genesis 3, with a dive into Biblical Hebrew. If you have questions, let me know. Use the contact form on the website. Thanks.

Adam and Eve Naked = Spiritual Wisdom

Adam and Eve naked from 1728 Figures de la Bible . At this juncture in the Genesis story both of them had POSITIVE wisdom

Adam and Eve naked. It sounds like some make-believe myth, not to say a joke. But no, it's real and has significance for the Bible story of humankind.

Adam and Eve naked from the Biblical Hebrew word aram. In the last chapter, we saw it refers to the positive wisdom of Adam and Eve as well as to the negative guile of the Serpent. How does positive nakedness refer to Adam and Eve? And negative nakedness to the Serpent?

Naked is much more than just the absence of clothing.

In the Bible, nakedness has to do with one's character. We’ve seen both King James Version (KJV) translations for naked and subtil derive from one Biblical Hebrew root, aram (H6191).

We also saw aram, whether translated subtilty (Pro. 1:4) or wisdom (Pro. 8:5), has a POSITIVE connotation. Likewise, aram, whether translated by guile (Ex. 21:14) or wilily (Jos. 9:4), has a NEGATIVE connotation.
