About this ebook

From writer Thomas M. Willett ("Apples & Chainsaws") comes a new short story that starts with a journey into an abandoned mall and ends with a look at its horrifying past. For Devin, he believes that the place can be redeemed. The question soon becomes if anyone wants to take him up on that proposition in this exploration of compassion in a hostile world.

    Dedication

Like most people in an election year, I find myself asking the immortal question: Am I better than I was four years ago? Without answering that question for myself, I decided to explore that question in this new story. The inspiration was quite straightforward, as COVID-19 has shut down businesses and has personally kept me from getting to visit my local mall. It made me wonder what a mall symbolizes in a greater picture. What is this cosmopolitan of commerce and ideas mean for this country’s future?

Consider this story a spiritual sequel of sorts to my 2016 story Silver, reflecting how I feel things have changed and what still could be done to make this world better. A lot of my reference points are moments throughout the past four years that have touched me in various ways, though are sometimes not directly referenced for creative license. I still hope the intent comes across clearly. This story is dedicated to everyone with their own propositions for 2020. I hope in some way we can make it all work together.

    THE COASTAL VIEW

What a fantastic creation this book is. A young man who is starting to realize that his earlier years that were spent as a some times troubled some times care youth are over. It is time to make more mature decisions. A great example of today's social urban life styles. I did not want this short story to end. I wanted it to continue to explore this youth's new realizations and life in his new future.
