About this ebook
Why did this phantom castle appear in the gardens on Halloween night?
Natasha Neuzerling
Hey, I’m Natasha Neuzerling, though I’ve also written under Cinnibar Rose, Rose Irons and Rose Lane (choosing a pen name is hard). I was born and grew up in a relatively normal family and relatively normal suburb – which is lucky, because there is little that is normal about myself. I would describe myself as a cat in human form: I prefer to watch rather than participate, I’m quiet, on the independent side, curious, rather vain, and if I let my body have its way, I’d sleep 12 hours a day. Luckily for my ambitions, I don’t let it do that.I’ve been writing short stories and planning longer projects for as long as I can remember. Though my childhood was primarily focused on fantasy, my current interests lie in mysteries and the paranormal.I hold a Bachelor of Arts, majoring and minoring in writing and children’s literature, respectively, and as of 2019 I’m working towards a Masters in Information Management. When I’m not writing or studying, I’m probably reading Agatha Christie or dealing with the antics of my two cats.Come along on my writing journey with me!

Maidencaster Keep
There’s an old story that those born on Halloween can see and communicate with the spirits of those who have passed.
It was as good an explanation as any for my psychic powers, or so the kids at school said. By the time my eighteenth birthday had rolled around, I’d solved a dozen paranormal-related mysteries in the Tuscany Valley, including discovering why five ghosts were haunting the Victorian era mansion owned by my stepsister’s family.
Myth confirmed, as Lexis would say.
We always celebrated my birthday by visiting a haunted place somewhere around the neighbourhood. We’ve been to everything from a haunted hotel in the hills to our own school. This year, I had something even better: the annual Halloween Ball and Tour at the Tanglewood Estate, owned by Lexis’ grandparents and home to five ghosts who would almost certainly make an appearance. The advantage here was that these ghosts were friendly and wouldn’t try to rip my head off, like some had in the past. When you reveal that four of five died in a deliberately lit fire, and the last was murdered, you tend to have gratitude for life.
Or unlife.
What are you looking so smug about?
My little brother Callum narrowed his eyes in my direction as we pulled into the driveway. The afternoon was grey, the sky blanketed in clouds, and it only served to make the main house stand out in the gloom. Three storeys of peaked roofs, tall windows and towering chimneys, Tanglewood stared down from a raised area
