About this ebook

The stories "Dead Zone", "A Maggot's Promise", "Re-Dead", and "Flip a Coin" are from Andrew Bucklin's collection, GOOD MOURNING.

GOOD MOURNING is a collection of short stories with an all around theme of grief and loss. Everybody goes through loss, from an average people, to a battle scarred soldiers, to even superheroes themselves. This collection contains emotional stories within the genres of horror, war, action, and history.

In "Dead Zone", Danny and his friends are on the lookout for their missing friend in a part of the forest they haven't been to in years. when they get there, however, something is...wrong. Not a bird chirping or a leaf rustling can be heard in this lifeless section of the forest, save for what seems to be a faint cry much further in.

"A Maggot's Promise" tells the story of Callum and Henry, two boys who have left the safety of home to gain glory and honor in the Great War. Things go quickly awry for the pair when an unexpected artillery barrage strikes while they're on duty and Henry is sent flying into no man's land. Callum must now navigate the underground network of trenches that are crawling with guards to get back topside and rescue his best friend.

In "Re-Dead", a normal construction worker falls off a roof in a freak occurrence and dies. In an even freakier occurrence, he comes back to life on his way to the morgue. He must now figure out what is going on while under the watchful eye of two mysterious men dressed in suits.

In "Flip a Coin", two soldiers find themselves trapped in an enemy interrogation room. Surrounded and with no help showing up any time soon, the two must find the way out by themselves, before the enemies can break in.
