    About the Author

    Foreword

Hi my name is Bowen Sky Waugh. I am the son of Robert G. Waugh. My dad wrote this book with me in mind. So, I guess, you could call me, Scatter. I always wanted to share my experiences and lessons with other kids but didn’t know how. In Scatter’s Quest, I found a way to reach out. I found a way to shine some light onto the possible future choices from which our children must choose.

I know that most kids don’t want to hear about other kids problems. It’s boring. You have your own pity party going on. Scatter’s Quest is a celebration of life, against all odds. It is an adventure where you, along with Scatter, can make your hopes and dreams come true.

I have grown up. My childhood, preteen and teenage years were difficult, to say the least. Medical problems, racism and an introverted personality made it difficult to navigate puberty.

I recently graduated college with a degree in Computer Science. I don’t think I would have made it without the love and support of family. I know that, perhaps, some of you do not have the same support.

My road was difficult. Your road may seem at times impossible.

Scatter’s Quest opens a whole new world that you can enter and find the answers to your questions.

So, come along on a journey of discovery, an epic adventure. Witness an animal fantasy story that teaches life’s lessons and stimulates curiosity about Africa, its biodiversity, stunning images, the challenges that face kids not just in Africa but around the world.

Bowen Waugh thinking about Scatter’s Quest

I was a young Black boy. I had dreams. I had fears. Can you see the future hope and dreams in my eyes? Can you see my fear and doubt?

Black Lives Matters and Black Minds Matter. Sports, music, games were all important parts of my youth. But I realized that it was my education that would insure success. I chose my mind. I focused my energies on my mind and I made my dreams come true.

Here is my contribution. In some small way, I hope it helps.

Every kids starts out believing that anything is possible I am here, as a Black man, to say, it is true! Read Scatter’s Quest. Find your path, Find your adventure towards self-discovery.

    Introduction

Children need a sense of safety, hope and stability. What are the lessons of Scatter Quest for our children?

How do we deal with fear; the fear of not knowing what the future holds or the fear of how to survive today?

Our survival instincts arise within us. The anger of the unfairness of life and the guilt that we are in someway responsible for our circumstances, haunt us.

How do we handle the greed and betrayal that accompanies the desperation that many of us face. How do we stand up for what is right against what’s more expedient? Morals and values are taught at an early age. Unfortunately, some kids do not have the luxury of parents and must learn other ways.

Our kids are like sponges. They absorb all that we allow them to witness and observe. Many of us turn to our religious institutions and leaders for guidance, but the temptations of life sometimes seem overwhelming.

Infants, children, preteens, look up to family for safety, sustenance and lessons of right and wrong. Many of us still use fairytales to teach these lessons.

Unfortunately, The internet and social media have become King for today’s generations. The electronic media demands kids attention and sometimes stimulate their more base instincts. What can we do, as parents. We try to teach our kids how to be wise consumers of media.

Scatter’s Quest is simply another tool to reach kids and have them follow a journey and learn important lessons (or at least, to
