FIVE STARS FOR THE ZEPHYR
WHAT READERS ARE SAYING
"Extremely happy to see that Jo Chumas has carried on with Aimee Ibrahim's story in The Hidden. This is the second book in the story and as usual, Jo Chumas writes a novel that you have to read in one go. Fortunately it is a short book, a novella, because I had to find out what happened to Aimee Ibrahim quickly as she flees Cairo to wartime Europe. There are not many modern novelists with this engaging, intriguing style of writing, her description of the characters and settings transport you right into the story and the suspense keeps you glued until the end. I was sorry when the Hidden had finished and have waited for Book 2 and look forward to reading the third book in the trilogy, The Unforgiven."
"I'm so glad to be back with Aimee Ibrahim! It's been awhile since I've read "The Hidden" and have really looked forward to the next instalment in this series.
Aimee is looking for a way out of Cairo, to get to London where she'll be safe. But before she leaves, Aimee must take care of a few loose ends.
I can't wait to get my hands on "The Unforgiven" to find out what happens with Aimee and her husband. Thanks Jo! An awesome segue into "The Unforgiven"!
THE ZEPHYR
Aimee Ibrahim was the target of political terrorists in The Hidden. Now she's on the run in wartime Europe, determined to avenge those who got away with murder. Her exit from Egypt is fraught with danger and her two travelling companions - Pierre Rigaud, a French academic and Adem Ediz, a Turkish mathematician - are both acting very suspiciously. While on the run news comes in that the Zephyr is on her tail. He is the last remaining link with her mother Hezba Sultan. Hezba's diary revealed the story of the Zephyr and his men, and why he must be killed no matter what.

CHAPTER ONE
The blood is singing
Aimee Ibrahim spent the remaining days and weeks of 1940 planning her departure from Egypt. With the police interrogations underway, she inwardly started acting out her revenge. There was much to attend to; her exit from Cairo, the timing of the killing and the mechanics of her life; how she would live once it was all over. The killing would be poetry, an ode to justice, delivered with a steady hand, the hard silver casing of her mama’s pistol still warm from the Farouk affair.
The splatter would be orchestral, and so her departure from this life would be complete. But she had no way of knowing whether these desires would or could be realised. She knew she was living some vague dream and saw the monster she had become in the far distance calling her. These mosaic thoughts, chopped up and pieced together, filled the entirety of her waking moments; life, death, murder, these thoughts would walk with her until the end of time; Farouk and the cut-glass desire in his black eyes never, ever leaving her. She had grown expert at acting the part of a woman without a voice, a listening creature, who had nothing to say. With these thoughts, Aimee started packing, secretly at first, so as not to alert her maid that anything was amiss.
Then one day a stranger—a heavy-set woman shrouded in a black abaya with frightened staring eyes—came to her house on the Sharia Suleyman Pasha in Garden City, downtown Cairo, with no warning, and delivered an envelope into her hands. She opened it and took out a single piece of thick cream paper. On it
