Dear Molly, Dear Olive
Molly and Olive are best friends — best friends who’ve never met! Two years ago, in second grade, they signed up for a cross-country Pen Pal Club. Their friendship was instant.
Molly and Olive send each other letters and email. They send postcards, notes, and little gifts too. Molly lives in New York City with her mom and younger brother. Olive lives on a farm near Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, with her parents. The girls’ lives are very different from one another. But Molly and Olive understand each other better than anyone.
Chapter 1

Damien and I get to visit Aunt Gen by ourselves in Poughkeepsie, New York! She’s so much fun. Plus, I’ll get to see what it’s like in the country, like where you live! Aunt Gen says Poughkeepsie isn’t the country
— it’s a city. But my mom says it might as well be the country compared to New York. I can’t wait to play in big fields and make friends with mice or something. Isn’t that what people do in the country? Just a big old break from having to DO things all the time would be great. I bet that’s what it’s like for you all the time! You’re so lucky.
I’ll let you know how it goes!
Best friends forever,
Molly
Two days seemed like a loooonng time to wait, but that was how long my letters took getting to Olive. It took all of my willpower not to just email her.
I was so excited to go to the country again. After I wrote the letter to
