Introducing The Glass Hotel
The Glass Hotel narrates the story two half-siblings, Vincent and Paul. They grow up to be emotionally and physically distant individuals. The story is set in British Columbia. This book starts with the scene of Vincent's final moments after falling off a ship. One of her final thoughts is a wish to see her brother. Quickly the time frame changes and the readers are introduced to Paul, a dropout from the University of Toronto where he was studying finance. Paul spends his teenage years dropping out of school and grappling with drug addiction. He aspires to be a composer and has a great interest in music, but he gets involved in a tragic incident. He tries to befriend band members by offering them drugs. He gives a tainted Ecstasy pill to a musician. The musician dies after taking it. Paul is haunted by the ghost of the band member who follows him everywhere. The ship of music has sailed for Paul, and he tries to earn his living by working odd and menial jobs. Trying to break the melancholy, he goes back to his father's house, where his half-sister, Vincent stays. Vincent is also a high school dropout, and she spends her free time creating video art. Vincent has recently lost her mother and is struggling with her grief. Paul tries to form a bond with his thirteen-year-old sister, but
