    INTRODUCTION

    It is a sunny fall day at a neighborhood playing field. Girls run back and forth. Parents stand on the sideline cheering. There is a goal at each end of the field. The girls toss a small ball to each other. One player runs toward the goal. She flings the ball at the cage with her stick. It’s a good shot, but the goalie catches it. Girls shout encouraging words to their teammates. Instead of giving high fives, they click their sticks together. This is a game of girls’ lacrosse.
