    he salt spray stung,

when it hit Alerton’s face. It was early March and the western Atlantic was very cold. His Garmin said he was 120 miles east of his Manhattan headquarters. Several of the people around him got very upset every time he went out on his boat like this, but then they did not know who he really was. Suddenly, his head hurts terribly. I have been trying to reach you, But everyone was alive their waves interfered with mine. The engines are quiet now, we must be out of fuel. The plane is falling; we are at lat.12.20 s and lon. 97.3 e you will find me there if I can stay in one piece. I love you and have had a wonderful, fulfilled and happy life with you. Thank you for sharing so much with me. Tell Everin I love her, and I hope you never see Jerome again. The plane is going very fast, and I think this will be the last lat. 12.25 s lon. 98.1 e I love.......that was the end of it, Alerton collapsed on his sailboat. That message had been in real time. His wife had sent this Hamen message from over 10,000 miles away. Could it be that she was really gone? They had gone through so much together, most of it had been wonderful. Al let the co-ordinates register in his mind. The place and the memories hit him, 62 years ago Marie and he had spent a whole month with their sloop anchored at the beautiful Cocos islands. It had been beautiful it had been idyllic. Ooh dam, over 300 years and 5 different infusions of Hamen blood, Marie was almost a Hamen now, or was. He had difficulty putting her in the past category, even though he knew her message was real. Her airplane had crashed. It would be on the news. He had to get back to land. He sailed the small sailboat just for enjoyment, and he was far out to sea. Several people thought he was crazy to sail so far out into the rough ocean. But they did not know his strengths or his resources. He had an autonomic speedboat, that could come at his calling. He thought about calling it now, but no. He could not save Marie at this time, but he still had to move. He had saved her from death 4 times in the past, but now may be different. If only she could have opened a door and jumped out. But disintegrated, there was nothing to work with. 5 infusions had made Marie 99 percent Hamen, but there were certain things even a Hamen could not survive. In their early Earth years, they had found that Hamen blood was aggressive, it tried to turn the patient into a Hamen. Alerton (Tom) called his pilot and told him to, Get the 37 ready to fly to Australia, max fuel, only one passenger. Will do, the pilot said, When do we leave? and Alerton replied, As soon as you can send a chopper out to get me." The pilot asked him about his boat.

    lerton said,

Ok have him bring a sailor out to sail it back. Now Alerton did something Hamens did not do and he had never done. He let his emotions run wild for the first time ever and wept and wept, letting his whole body feel the loss. They had share everything, the wonderful times and the terrible times. Now he called an old friend in Australia and told him lease me the largest and strongest sea plane you can find. Yes, I know they are expensive, but I don’t care, have its max fuel and crewed when I get there and have a chopper with rotors turning waiting to take me to the seaplane. Now alerton watch the news on his phone but all they were saying was overdue, no contact. He could tell them it had crashed and where to find it, but no that would not work. He had learned over the centuries to keep a very low profile. Now he continues to sail until he heard the chopper and then dropped sail and waited. Soon a sailor is lowered down to the boat, and he gives the harness to Alerton and soon Alerton is in the chopper flying back to land. 80 minutes Later Alerton was sitting in his private Modified 737 waiting in line to take off at Kennedy airport in New York. A back up crew was in a compartment at the rear of the plane. There would be no 12-hour flying limit on this plane. Now as the engines roar and the plane starts to move Alerton thought about why he was going. Even with Hamen super regeneration power he knew Marie was gone. But he had to try, she had saved his life before. How much of a sample and what kind of condition did it have to be in to regenerate a Hamen? He was now in his private compartment and put himself into a trance and stays in it until they reach Perth. Now leaving the Boeing he quickly walks the one block to the waiting running helicopter, and as soon as Alerton buckles up and puts his earphones on the chopper is lifting into the air. 20 minutes later they are landing on a windy peer beside a large rocking seaplane. 15 minutes later the turboprop engines on the seaplane come to life and as soon as the crew goes through their checklist the large plane begins to move and soon, they are flying. Alerton in his large chair pushes the intercom button and confirms the coordinates. Four hours later, on his direct order the plane is landing in a rough sea. The crew did not want to but on his orders open a hatch right above the water line. Alerton sits in the open hatch, he is getting wet he does not care. He puts his hands into the water and pushes his senses to the limit but there are no vibes no thoughts a blank. Was he expecting there to be, he did not know, he put his hand in the cold water again and opened his mind again and still nothing? The pilot was demanding they close the hatch because they were taking in water. Alerton demanded five more minutes. Now since Alerton saw no hope he got out of the cold wet hatch and let them shut and lock it. On the speaker the pilot said Mr. Alerton we need to take off now. Alerton thought for a moment and said ok. The pilot said as soon as you are buckle in your seat we will take off. It will be rough. When he was buckled in, he told them and immediately the already running engines began to roar and they began to move and as they picked up speed the collisions with the waves got rougher and now the plane was slowing down. Alerton asked a crewman what is wrong. The pilot is looking for better cycle of waves that cycle was too rough. Alerton thought to himself this is a hell of a place to crash. The pilot kept the engines running and they moved slowly into the wind. After about 15 minutes the engines roared again, and the collisions were rough but not as rough as last time. Now the plane left the rough ocean and began to climb. Because he was paying for it Alerton was able to tell the pilot to level off at 500 feet and circle those co- ordinates. The pilot did not like it but had no reason to refuse. After 30 min of circling and not feeling anything Alerton said head for Perth. Now Alerton’s mind went to Everin, she had gone through this when she lost Doc. He had not quite understood at the time. But spending 300 good years with someone, left a hell of an empty spot when they were gone. He contacted Everin now and told her now I know what you went through. Everin quiz back what happened? Alerton sent her a flash mental copy of his last 36 hours. He felt her deep remorse and empathy for him. I need to see you he said. Are you going back to New York? I will be there within 24 hours. Everin sent back, I will see you in New York then.

    ix months later

Alerton began to have nightmares, and Hamens did not have nightmares. But there he was in cold and wet and dark, that was all there was, he would wake up and that’s all he would know. Some nights he would totally wreck the big bed. But that did not matter he was rich beyond belief. Not that any one person knew the full extent of his riches. He had accounts in 27 different names in 21 countries. He had started rich and in 500 years it had tripled and tripled and tripled. But what did it matter Marie was gone six golden anniversaries gone in that terrible plane crash? He had spent a large chunk of his useless fortune to get the real crash report. Not the one given to the public the real one and found that one executive made a decision that kept a certain pilot flying. Al could still hear and see him falling into that rough cold spot where the plane had crashed. Having done that did not bother him, so what was causing those nightmares. Finally two weeks later he said to hell with it and called his secretary, Gail, and told her the name of this group of islands, and told her to go there and buy him a large catamaran, and hire an expert crew and stock it well. You know what I like. Yes, she did know his taste, it was usually Italian, and she wasn’t sure why, he was not Italian and as far as she knew he had never lived there. But today he was in one of his moods. Go straight to the airport, Marge in transport already has you a first-class seat, my helicopter will take you to Kennedy, hurry you can put clothes and things on your company card. So now she was on the express elevator and as she stepped out onto the private helipad and hanger the Augusta’s blades were already turning and as soon as she buckled up, they were in the air. In a few minutes she was being rushed through express lanes to a waiting jumbo jet. The other passengers wondered who this person was that an airline would hold up a jet for her. And again, as soon as she was in her seat they were rolling, the steward helped her buckle up, and added you want your drink? What do you mean? Well your boss bought everyone a drink, that includes you too. Her phone vibrated, they had just lifted off, she looked at the steward and he nodded yes. It was her boss Tom (aka Alerton) I will be there in about 24 hours. I want that catamaran bought and ready when I get there. He ended the call; he did not do this often but when he did stay out of his way. She really liked Tom and she knew he had a very hard time accepting Marie’s death. But he paid his close employees well and seemed to care about them. And sometimes had surprises for them, and they would wonder how he knew.

Cocos Gail as usual had done her job. He was not crazy about the paint job, but the catamaran was large with new engines and sails. After looking the boat and the crew over he thanked Gail told her she had done a very good job, gave her a hug (very unusual) and said we are sailing but why don’t you do a little vacation here on Cocos or Christmas. And now Tom was off, he looks back at her as they sailed away. And because he could read her mind, he knew she wanted more, and she was an attractive proficient woman, but right now Marie was the only woman on his mind. Five hours later they made their first island. Tom did not know what he was doing or why he was doing it, it was just instinct. If there was a road, they drove it, if there was just a trail, they walked it. Two days later Tom came to the captain and said, Caleb this is not the island, let us go. Caleb replied pardon me sir, but what is the right island? I do not know my friend, but we will keep looking until I do know. Fourteen days later having given up on their sixth island Tom and Caleb sat in the shade of a restaurant talking looking out onto the street. A group of young women, obviously poor, walked by and one of them a blond underfed girl of 15 turned and looked at Tom and said ALERTON. Tom nearly had a heart attack and before he could recover, she was gone, and he could not find her. Now in a state of shock he walks back to the restaurant. He orders them two more drinks and when the owner brings them, he asks do you know who that slim blond girl was? Of course, he said, she is the orphan. Shocked, Tom asked why is she called the orphan? The owner said, you haven’t heard the story. Tom was getting impatient, tell me. Well her parents owned a catamaran just like yours, and they rented it out to tourist, but this day it was just the girl and her parents just out sailing, they had been out 3 days. Yes, Tom interrupted, what happened then? Well the restaurant owner said, a large piece of an airplane fell on the boat and destroyed the boat and killed both her parents. Tom sat there stunned, he did not know what to make of it how to put it together. Did it really mean something or was the whole thing crazy? But he had to pursue it had to ask, where does she live. The owner said, she lives with some poor folks up on the north side of the hill. Tom turned to Caleb and said, I have to go up there. I know Caleb said, and I am going with you. First Tom said I want all the
