Jim has led hundreds of large-scale rhythmical workshops, inspiring increased innovation, accelerated change and profound insights for personal and organizational leadership. Jim has taught drum circle facilitation skills for over 20 years in the US, Europe and Japan.Jim’s passion for drum circle facilitation shows in his commitment to community drumming in his hometown of Seattle, WA. Jim has served as President of the Seattle World Percussion Society and Chaired the Seattle World Rhythm Festival. For the past 8 years, Jim has been part of the team facilitating 3 days of community rhythm circles at the Northwest Folklife festival, creating opportunities for hundreds of new families to learn about drumming.     Willing To Rumble

    At the heart of each of us, whatever the imperfections, exists a silent pulse of perfect rhythm which connects us to the universe.

    I’m standing in the center of a giant, air-conditioned conference room, with floor-to-ceiling windows on one wall. Outside, it’s an overcast Seattle morning. Inside, surrounding me in a massive circle, sit 350 Microsoft engineers, each holding some type of drum or percussion instrument: hand-carved djembes from Africa; congas from South America; a variety of Remo manufactured drums; plus shakers, wood blocks, and metal bells of all kinds. This is one of the largest corporate drum circles I’ve ever facilitated. Although my real job – the one that pays my mortgage – is as a leadership development coach, my role today is to lead a team-building rhythm session for these high potential employees.

    The faces staring back at me represent cultures from around the world: Indian, Chinese, South American, European, and American; mostly millennials, but, as in so many tech companies these days, the men clearly outnumber the
