    CHAPTER 1

    WHAT IS IT ABOUT MIND-PUTTING

    There are tons of books on putting. So why this one?

    In golf, putting is the ultimate task. With the putter we can save or lose strokes faster than with any other club. But: We assess, calculate, extrapolate, assume – and then we do not hole in.

    Just why?

    The benefit of this book is different from all other books on putting that I know of. It goes beyond putting technique.

    When we mess up our score with missed putts, it is very likely that our conscious mind is tricking us: we rely on how we think we should putt and we execute the putt trusting our ability to consciously perform the required stroke.

    With our conscious mind we are not capable of putting our best.

    We have to learn to stop putting with our conscious mind. We have to stop mind-putting.

    Well, the question is then, how do we putt best?

    The answer is right here in the book. We putt best when we learn to use our body intelligence - it knows so much better than our conscious mind.

    This book is about avoiding bad putts.

    By learning to use our body intelligence, we are capable of much better assessing the situation on the green and executing the required putting motion.

    The book starts out with newest insights on the 7 most relevant elements of putting, the essence of becoming a better putter. The better we are in hitting a straight putt consistently and the more proficient we are in interpreting a green for green-reading, the greater the benefit of this book.

    These findings on putting have been gathered during my decades as business and sports consultant for e.g.. golf professionals and due to my infinite quest searching for the ultimate techniques to perfect putting,

    When I got into golf a long time ago, I was sure that putting is pure math: Once you have developed a decent putting-routine and you are capable of reading the slope as well as the speed of the green, it is easy to put well. Therefore, the smarter the golfer is, the more his understanding of the science behind putting, the better he is likely to put. I thought.

    I was dead wrong.

    By watching golf on TV, I had to realize that the intellect does not have to do anything with being a good or bad putter.

    As a lady I know from the European Tour once put it: ‘Successful putting is not a secret. Every golfer can be a great putter – even every amateur. You just have to practice right. There is absolutely no putting-skill a tour professional can develop which an amateur cannot develop also.’

    And indeed, this seems to be true. Who does not know of the old guys in the club holing every putt? They might not be good golfers, but they definitely are excellent putters. Why? Because they play the course every day for thirty or forty years. They know exactly how to putt on each green. Once, however, they have to play a different course, they are not better than the rest of us.

    This encouraged me to seek a deeper understanding of how efficacious putting works.

    During my research I came across the science of energy psychology. It is a fairly new science dealing with energy systems in our body. They determine emotions, our cognition, behaviour and even our health. I have studied energy psychology more deeply for over a year, got educated on it and applied the findings to putting. Surprisingly, my putting success changed dramatically. And not only mine, but of other golfers as well – no matter how experienced they were.

    Until today, energy psychology is widely used, but hardly for an increase of performance in golf – despite complementing conventional knowledge on putting technique perfectly.

    It turned out, that energy psychology is the missing link to becoming the best golfer with putting one can be.

    By now you have probably figured: No, this book is not an ordinary golf book on putting. You are right. I will show that the method described here is much more powerful to advance your putting skills than anything else you have ever had the chance to work with.

    Once you have internalized the method, you will very likely become a much better putter than today. This is true no matter how good you are putting today.

    Even tour professionals will benefit from it.

    I call the method Flow&Release©. It works. Even under pressure when a lot is at stake.

    THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PUTTING

    The putt – is it one of the most important strokes in golf?

    Studies have shown that the successful tee shot and the best possible approach shot are important prerequisites for a good score. If we play better than usual, however, it is the putts that we are sinking. After a round of golf it is the successful putts which let us return home happily.

    The same applies to tour players. According to the analysis of Marc Broadie, whom I had the chance to meet, excellent putting is the key to many victories and is contributing more than 35% to the
