Purely by accident, Edward Baxter, a college professor, and astronomer, discovers two planets missing in the Milky Way Galaxy.

With the assistance of every telescope on Earth, including the Arecibo radio telescope, and others, along with the Hubble space telescope, as well as the Kepler space telescope, a strange, unprecedented, radio signal, is discovered.

Little does he know the significance of his discovery, until the day a massive, angry looking, storm in space, appears just outside the Earth’s atmosphere.

From that moment on, the people of Earth realize they do not control their future.

Marsell was born in Detroit Michigan in the year of... well, a good while ago. After graduating from Cass Technical High School, Marsell went to work for the Chrysler Corporation as a conveyor loader. Shortly after beginning his employment with Chrysler, he married, and fathered three children. Thirty-one years later, and after having gained the position of production supervisor, he retired at fifty.After retiring, he began playing golf everyday and all day. Having lowered his handicap to near scratch, and winning a tournament at even par, and behind a debilitating injury, he was unable to continue playing. He had a lot of free time on his hands, whereupon, he took up writing as a hobby and time killer and discovered he had talent for spinning a yarn.After pounding out eleven urban fictions, covering everything from drug use, prostitution, gang crime, murder, and romance/erotica, and having always been a science fiction fan from his teenage years, he thought he’d try his hand at writing a Sci-Fi tail, which culminated in his first work “Alien Plot - First Contact” now retitled "Alien Offensive - Nanobot Storm" and its four sequels, and which, at one time before he ran into problems with its publisher, was considered good fodder for production as a movie, not because he is such a great writer, but because of its unique, previously unexplored, plot.He still lives in Detroit, and being a compulsive writer, he spends most of his time wearing out his fourth keyboard replacement, while pursuing what he loves doing — writing more tails with unique story lines.

Chapter 1

The time — the present.

The place — Cambridge, Massachusetts, modern Earth.

Edward, your ride will be here in another half hour, Alice, Edward’s wife, calls up to him, you better get up now. He’s been nice enough to drive you to the observatory, and you don’t want to keep Gill waiting.

Yeah, yeah, I’m getting up now. Christ, I’ve got a hell-of-a hangover. Why do I have to get drunk every time I take a drink at the end of a shift. But it is nice of Gill to come and get me. I sure as hell can’t afford another DUI. The judge said I’d go to jail if I drove again. Let me get my tired ass up.

Oh, I see you have another hangover. No eggs for you this morning. Do you want your regular? Alice, asked, Edward, as he came into the kitchen.

Yeah, my stomach is messed up. And give me a bagel with the coffee. I think that’s all I can keep down.

Okay, honey. But you should really think about going to the AA like my cousin recommended.

I don’t know, maybe I will one day. Did you thank your cousin for letting me off light and not sending me to jail?

No, I sent him an email thanking him in your name as soon as he let you return home. He understands.

Great. I’ll send him another when I get the chance. But I know one thing, I’m not going to touch a drop tonight. I’m already sick enough. By the way, who drove me home, you or Gill? I was too plastered to remember.

Both of us. I drove you car home while Gill brought you back here. Here, let me put you some coffee in a thermos. You’ll need more than one cup.

Thanks, baby. Edward flopped down in a chair at the kitchen table, and peered through a window while watching for Gill.

Being a tenured professor of astronomy at Harvard University, Edward is the head of the astronomy department, and has rights to pursue any academic research without fear of repercussion or losing his job, however, he wasn’t sure being thrown in jail was covered by his tenure.

He met Alice way back when he was a teaching professor, and while reluctant to begin dating when they fist met, she, like any young student, was hopelessly in love with him, and told him she wouldn’t give up on her pursuit of him no matter how long it took.

Eventually, and after tricking Edward into having a lunch with her on the pretense of discussing post graduate studies in astronomy, she was honest with him while explaining she wouldn’t stop pursuing him until they were married. She explained that she liked his sense of humor, and his easy going personality, and even though he was a handsome, older, man, it was his personality she liked most about him.

Edward had to admit to himself that he did like the young girl who’d blossomed into a beautiful young woman, but he still had reservations about dating one of his students — the University frowned on such activity, but now she was full grown, and by her admission, really didn’t intend to begin post graduate studies, he figured he give her a chance, although, marriage wasn’t in his itinerary.

What Edward didn’t expect was they, as a couple, got alone famously, and his plan to never get married, soon, became less of a conviction. The fact that she, also, had the demeanor of a woman twice her age, didn’t hurt either. After a two year, whirlwind courtship, and he gaining his tenure, the pair pronounced their vows. That was ten years ago, and their love was as strong as ever, even with his drinking problem that developed after he and Gill, a heavy drinker, but not alcoholic, began having a taste or two together at the end of a long night of peering at the dark skies of space. He didn’t know he had the addict gene found in most alcoholics, but wasn’t present in Gill’s genes.

Okay, Gill is out front. I’ll see you later, baby, and I promise, I won’t get drunk tonight. Gill and I have special project planned, and I’m coming straight home at the end of the night, Edward, says, as he gets up and plants a kiss on Alice’s cheek."

Don’t forget your thermos.

Oh, yeah, thanks. I’ll see you later.

Okay. Is there anything special you want for diner?

No, not particularly. What had you planned to cook?

Steak and potatoes.

Hey, that sounds good to me. I’ll see you later. I should be home by twelve, Edward, says, as he leaves to get in Gill’s Honda.

Ah, I see you can walk, now, huh? Gill teases, as Edward gets in the car.

Yeah, funny, Gill. Come on let’s get going.

Driving, Sir. Say, it was nice of Judge Wilbert to let you go home yesterday, wasn’t it?
