    Dreamers Destiny - S.H. Steele

    Preface: A bit of history

SINCE THE FOUNDATION of a lakeside village known as Augusto there lived families of Dream Walkers and Runners; collectively known as Dreamers; upon the high mountain that overlooks the town. Though the villagers of Augusto named the mountain Mount Eleanor; the Walkers and Runners call it Mount Tempos for the temples that sit on opposite sides of the vast mountain range.

Each temple monitors those responsible for mortal’s dreams and nightmares. The temples are surrounded by cottages that house the race of Dreamers. For as long as mortals have lived in Augusto, Walkers have been charged with protecting the villagers from the hellish nightmares that Runners are duty bound to send them through.

Each race of Dreamers has their own set of laws to follow. One such law, they both follow, requires them not to fall in love with a charge. However, during the last five hundred years there have been a handful of Dreamers that have broken this sacred law. Sentenced to the mortal realm, the Walker or Runner descends upon the small village to learn if the love they have is real or simply a product of the dream world.

By falling in love and living as a mortal, the Dreamers end up creating powerful beings that overtime are called to the Dream World to uphold the laws. Once in a great while, a set of twins is born to a Dreamer and a mortal. Every set of twins born to a Dreamer and a mortal is required to live between the mortal world and the Dreamer realm where they will guide and protect Dreamers banished from the high mountain. Since the law was put into place, only a few Dreamers have created children. Very few of those children remained in the mortal world. Now, a new challenge presents itself when a Dreamer falls in love with a half-Dreamer/half-mortal.

    Chapter One

THERE WAS NEVER A MOMENT that Marco was not part of Alyssa’s dreams. At least none that the twenty-year-old could think of. From the moment her light-haired head hit her pillow and she closed her eyes, he was there. As if he knew when she would be dreaming. In truth, it had only been six years since their first meeting and over the years, she confided in her best friend, Fiona – who was widely skeptical of Marco and the time that Alyssa spent pining for him.

One autumn afternoon, the two friends sat in the kitchen of the cottage where Alyssa and her mother lived. History books about Augusto were spread across the table. Alyssa was studying history at the town’s university and Fiona was brushing up on her medieval history by auditing the class that term, while also learning about how to run a successful business.

Sweetie, you are never going to find this Marco fellow, Fiona said as they sat across from each other doing homework. From everything you’ve told me, if he exists, he would be by your side, and I would be fighting him for your attention.

Fiona, with her jet-black hair, always said what she wanted. She knew if she held back, she would miss the
