About this ebook

The inspiration to write the book Sojourner was triggered by the vision I had on 2nd of June, 2016 which trembled my heart. Basically, the vision was about the challenges of life which propel individuals to migrate from one locality to the other.
This vision led my congregation into prayers for several days. One of my associate in the ministry suggested I put these facts into a printable material; so that readers may remember their root, evaluate life experiences, the reality of death which requires strong determination before the last breath and appropriate their ways. Read the book with prayers and be blessed as you prepare your mind for eternal home where there would be no second chance.

    INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN LIFE

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth according to Genesis 1:1. The first man Adam and his wife Eve were placed in the beautiful Garden of Eden where they enjoyed the presence of God. All the necessary facilities were made available to them in the Garden. God pronounced blessings upon Adam and his off springs to multiply and take dominion over all the living and non-living creatures on earth. Sometimes later, the man Adam and his wife disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit of the knowledge of good and evil.

In consequence, God placed curse upon them and were sent out of the beautiful Garden. Ever since, man has been finding answers to the mysteries of life which is unfold to him after the fall. Some of the mysteries were to find meaning to life and the significance of his existence. There have been large numbers of proposed answers to these questions from many different cultural and ideological backgrounds. The search for life's meaning has produced many philosophical, scientific, theological and metaphysical speculations throughout history.

    PHILOSOPHICAL THEORIES ABOUT LIFE

The meaning to life as earlier said is derived from philosophical, cultural, religious and scientific inquiries and contemplation that expatiates on; existence, social ties, consciousness and happiness. Many other issues are also involved, such as ontology, value, purpose, ethics, good and evil, free will, conceptions of the existence of one God or multiple gods, the soul and the afterlife. Scientific contributions focus primarily on describing related empirical facts about the universe. These questions have resulted to a wide range of competing answers and arguments, from scientific theories, to philosophical, theological and spiritual explanations.

Though, scientists have intensively studied life on Earth, defining life in unequivocal terms which is still a challenge according to Schrodinger, (1944). The Biologists generally agree that life forms are self-organizing systems which regulate their internal environments as to maintain this organized state and reproduction causes life to continue over a span of multiple generations. Astrobiology studies the possibility of different forms of life on other worlds, including replicating structures made from materials other than DNA.

    THE MEANING TO LIFE

    Life connotes different meanings and notions to individuals, as it relates to them. Scholars define life according to their field of study, ideology and conceptions. Though, researchers in positive psychology study have empirical factors that lead to meaning of life, satisfaction, engagement in activities, making contributions by utilizing one's personal strength. These are public opinion on internet;

a.Life is to serve humankind, to prepare to meet and become more like God, to choose good over evil and have joy.

b.To be moved by the tears and pains of others, and try to help them out of love and compassion.

c.Life and human existence has no meaning or purpose because human existence occurred out of a random chance in nature and anything that exists by chance has no intended purpose.

d.Life has no meaning but as human, we try to associate a meaning or purpose, so that we can justify our existence.

e.One should not seek to know and understand the meaning of life. The answer to the meaning of life is too profound to be known and understood.

f.To love something bigger, greater and beyond ourselves. Something we did not create or have power to create, something intangible and made holy by our very belief in it.

g.To spread your religion and share it with others

h.To do your best, to leave every situation better than you found it.

i.To survive, that is to live as long as possible, including pursuit of immortality through scientific means.

Reker and Wong (1988) life was defined as the cognizance of order, coherence and purpose in one’s existence, the pursuit and attainment of worthwhile goals and an accompanying sense of fulfillment. In progress, they have proposed a four-component solution to the meaning of life which were purpose, understanding, responsibility and enjoyment.

1.Man needs to choose a worthy purpose or a significant life goal.

2.He needs to have sufficient understanding of who he is, what life demands of him and how he can play a significant role in life.

3.Individuals are responsible for deciding what kind of life he wants to live and what constitutes a significant and worthwhile life goal.

4.He will enjoy a deep sense of significance and satisfaction only
