About this ebook

Cam and Shaen are orphans. They lost their parents at a young age and resorted to thievery to survive. Cam, the more serious one, and his brother Shaen, the more enjoying one, rob a house and find two guns inside. The guns are heavy, but powerful. One shot can destroy a small car. They keep the guns in hopes to put them to good use.

They're contacted later by a shadowy organization known as the Lotfires. Cam and Shaen accept and are put in a squad of above-average members; Sera, Jayson, Kelvin and Teddy. They're known as the Advanced Individuals Squad, or simply AI Squad.

Cam tries to lead them, but the four are hesitant to accept him as their new squad leader. A fork in their road comes when a new group of mysterious figures threatens the Lotfires and Cam's squad. Together, they try and face their faceless foes with as little friendly casualties as possible.

But not everything goes as planned...

Hello there. I'm a small writer (with no monetary gain from this) simply fulfilling my hobby of... writing. I don't upload very frequently and apparently don't upload very good books. The Gunpowder

On a distant planet, now colonized by humans, a large city is walled off into portions. The inner part serves as the cities heart. It packs to the brim with large government buildings, corporations, and wealthy citizens. A thick wall separates them from the middle class. Smaller offices and businesses usually occupy the area. Most citizens making steady wages live in this area and doesn’t see much of the inside or outside. The outer districts are the lower-class citizens, gangs, criminals and industrial. In the northern district, no light can pass through thick smog and bright lights. Corrupt corporations overpower the thugs, criminals, and homeless below them. Police are underpaid and can care less of the incidents around them. Outside of the city are roads and wilderness, a few hundred kilometers before the next city is met.

In the outer district of the city, a family living in the Red Slums just gave birth to a set of twins, known as Cam and Shaen Qinden. They were raised by their parents until the age of 13. From there, Futter Tech demanded more pay and took their parents in exchange. They set out for the dangerous streets. Shaen was always the more playful and daring, while Cam was more serious and focused on the current matter.

Hey Cam, Shaen called, jumping off the fire escape next to the wall his brother leaned on. Why don't you smile little, let some light into your mouth?

Cam shifted his eyes to face the 15-year-old about to grasp his cheeks and mesh his face into a smile. Upon instinct, he flipped out his knife and held it at Shaen's wrist. Touch me, and I sever your freaking artery.

Shaen pulled his hand back. Don’t be so serious; I'm just joking with ya. He jumped up on to a closed dumpster. I was thinkin' of moving closer to the walls, seeing what loot we can find in the houses of the wealthy people, maybe even screw aroun' with a corporate office.

That's a terrible idea. The only pay the pity excuse of a police force get is from those offices. They'll send a whole damn squadron if we show any sign of hostility. However, hitting some houses isn’t a bad idea. Cam closed his knife and put it back in his coat pocket.

He wore a thin leather jacket with two large inner pockets covering a grey hoodie which usually kept its hood down. The front of the hoodie was visible, along with the hood, visible over the back collar. Shaen wore a long coat that met his lower thighs, along with a polo shirt that revealed a black t-shirt. He kept a small rusty pipe in his back pocket for when he gets into fights. Both were agile, but Cam was quick on his feet and had powerful blows. Shaen knew how to sneak around undetected and pickpocket, an ideal thief.

You know, nobody seems entertained in this city. You seem to be the only person with a smile on your face, and it’s a stupid one. Cam said, looking at a dull businessperson walk past them.

I know. When was the last time you made a face? Cam put a hand on the back of his brothers’ neck and pushed his thumb in to a pressure point. He kneeled from the intense pressure. Okay, okay! I'm sorry.

Say something like that again, I'll break your neck.

Right. Anyways, another rumor I heard is that this new rich family installed some huge vault in their basement.

This news caught Cam's attention. Did they say what's in it?

That parts shaky. I heard cash, jewels, weapons, armour, even the key to becoming the most powerful man in the city.

Cam's eyes widened a little. Well, I say it's worth checking out. How far away?

Just a few blocks. Make a left at the old -55 building and then a straight shot.

    The Shell

Cam and Shaen stood in front of 991 Old Parker Street. The house was dark except for a blacklight that covered their whole yard.

That blacklight will make getting in more difficult. Got any ideas? Shaen felt his pockets.

The wall is right there. Get up to where you can jump on to the roof and crawl until you can swing in front of the door. From there, you can do the usual. Cam suggested, looking over the cracked wall that towered behind the house.

Shaen nodded. I could make do with that. I'll radio you when I reach the wall.

Right. Just don't die. How else will I break into places? Cam said sarcastically. Shaen nodded and ran inside.

Cam watched him disappear to the dark side road, losing sight of him for several minutes before seeing a man sprawled across the roof.

Okay, I'm on top. I can either take the door or the ventilation. Shaen radioed his bother.

Don’t take the vent. It could be trapped, have sensors. The fan could tear you apart. Cam warned, signaling him to go to the front.

Right. That is smart. I'll let you know if I have any other complications. He clicked his radio to standby and made his way across the slick rooftop. He reached the top when he met a loose shingle, causing him to slide down to the side gutter. He let out a small groan before pulling himself up. He looked down at his brother, who watched him with his same blank expression. I'm fine, thanks for asking.

I know you are. It isn’t that far down.

Shaen gave him a face and continued crawling over to the front where he swung down to the door. Alright. I made it. I'll let you know of any further complications. He reported as he took out his Pick-Pen, a gift he found in a dumpster once. The lock clicked open and the door slowly opened before him. He heard a small rumble behind him and looked back. Cam stood there with his hood up.

Hurry up before the rain leaks through my jacket and gets my knife rusty. He said in a demanding voice.

It won't kill you, Wicked Witch. This house is decorated. There's so much stuff in here.

Only the vault. We don't want to set off a pressure pad, or a laser system.

I'll be fine. Watch me. Shaen remarked as he crept through the house. He approached a door under the stairs leading to the second floor. Hey, I found the door to the basement. I don't see a lock that I can pick. Any ideas?

If it's a keypad, look for fingerprints. If it's a fingerprint scanner, get some tape and stick it onto a doorknob. Cam suggested.

No, retinal scan. The door is a classic wooden door, the ones made for houses.

Unscrew the hinges and set it loose. It'll swing the opposite way due to the lock.

Shaen nodded to himself and took out his multitool. He took the screws off the door and moved it to where he can get in. He slipped through the crack and stepped down the dark basement stairs. God, it's humid in here. How can a basement feel like a marsh?

Possibly an advanced water heater, or an artificial environment.

For what? Shaen flicked on a lighter he had in his pocket.

You realize creatures can only live in humid environments. Alligators back on Earth needed to. Cam reminded him. It's unlikely they have an alligator down there, though.

Relax, you'll go grey by the time you're twenty. I've reached the bottom and I think I see a large metal door. Shaen walked up to the object and felt it. Yep. Synthesized Iron reinforced with lithium around the edges. I'm not cutting in here. Seems to have an advanced thermal lock.

The room needs to be a specified temperature to open. That's why it's so humid down there. Cam figured it out. Look for a thermostat, or some kind of temperature system.

Found it. It's a dial and two arrows, pointing up and down.

    What do they say?

The dial is at 19 and the arrows say 78 percent. Shaen read.

Get the humidity to zero and the dial to 23. Cam estimated.

Alright. Shaen held the arrows downward and turned
