A SUMMER ROMANCE
I loved you with a passion
In the summer of ’48,
That sepia patch beyond the cottage.
I had never seen a bog before
And it was love at first sight.
Indelible those lawns of sphagnum moss,
Reels and jigs of rush and meadow thistle,
A spider’s stainless steel bridging bog cotton
And asphodel,
