    I loved you with a passion

    In the summer of ’48,

    That sepia patch beyond the cottage.

    I had never seen a bog before

    And it was love at first sight.

    Indelible those lawns of sphagnum moss,

    Reels and jigs of rush and meadow thistle,

    A spider’s stainless steel bridging bog cotton

    And asphodel,
