About this ebook

William, or Smooth as he is known to the streets, is a down south King of the Streets. He runs his operation throughout the South, with his main headquarters in Birmingham. Smooth has the money and the respect, the only thing he doesn’t have is a woman to share it with. But with his business, it is hard to find a woman that he can trust. He is looking for love and not lust.

When his sister comes to visit him at his Atlanta home, she takes matters into her own hands and signs him up on a dating website. She is unaware of his secret hustle and goes full throttle to find her brother a mate. William is not into the dating site thing. In his line of business, he could have any woman that he wanted, but curiosity takes over and he takes a look and stumbles across Angel Jacobs.

Angel is a church girl looking to come out of shell and find love. When she meets the 33-year-old chocolate man that she believes to be a truck-driver, she is instantly head over heels. Angel is just the woman that William has been looking for. She is a well spoken, classy, full-figured woman with a good head on her shoulders. And the biggest plus, she is not affiliated with the hustle and bustle of the street life. Their first date goes well until it is abruptly interrupted by his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sheila.

Hoping that doesn’t ruin his chances with Angel, William attempts to set Sheila straight. But when Sheila, who may be his potential baby momma, begins to threaten his empire and relationship, William realizes that something or someone has to go.

    Prologue

S mooth, watch out! Jock yelled. Smooth ducked behind the car as the bullets blazed past his head. They had been in the middle of a drug drop when the whole thing went left. Smooth and Jock were just some local runners for Jock’s big brother Rickey Roe. He had sent them on a run.

    POW!

Call your brother, we have to get out of here, Smooth yelled to Jock. Little did they know, but Rickey Roe was on the scene. He had set up the whole thing. He wanted to see if they had heart and could get themselves out of a critical situation.

Jock was not for the gunshots. He ducked behind the building and hid. Smooth, on the other hand had gone head up with the shooters, only ducking to miss the bullets. He didn’t show any fear in his heart. Rickey Roe was impressed and when he thought he had seen enough, he called off the shooters.

Squad break! he yelled. He was disappointed in his brother. Jock should have been handling business instead of hiding. On the other hand, Smooth had proven himself to be a heavy hitter. When Smooth and Jock heard Rickey Roe’s voice, they knew instantly that this was a setup.

Damn, we have been fucked, Smooth said as he and Jock walked over to where Rickey was standing. Jock was nervous; he already knew that he failed. He had seen his brother kill weak niggas like him on a daily basis. He knew that Rickey only spared him because they were brothers.

As you probably could tell, this was a test. I needed to see how you would handle yourself in the event your location was a trap. One of you failed me. Rickey looked over at Jock, who had dropped his head. But the other one passed with flying colors. Smooth, welcome aboard. Jock, go home man, this is not the life for you.

Smooth was happy that he had impressed Rickey but sad that Jock didn’t make it. Jock didn’t dare cross his brother, he left without another word. Smooth went on to continue to train with Rickey. Rickey took Smooth under his wing and showed him the ropes.

It was a monumental day when Rickey appointed him his right hand man. Smooth only 19 years old at the time felt like he was on top of the world. He had never seen so much money or women ever. At first, he was spending recklessly. Rickey calmed him down.

Man, look, the more you spend the more the IRS looks at you. Keep your money secure and your purchases small. Real niggas don’t need to be flashy. We shine regardless.

From that point on, Smooth learned to grind hard in the streets but keep his street life away from his personal life. Rickey was proud of Smooth. He proved to more than just a good solider, he was also loyal. He stood by Rickey to the very end.

Rickey and Smooth were on their way to close out from a long day of hustling when Smooth noticed they were being followed. Yo, Roe, that car behind us, who is that? Smooth pointed out.

But before Rickey could say anything, the gunfire began. Smooth was ready; he fired back while Rickey steered. They both knew the life they lived they was often prone to these types of unfortunate events. Just drive Roe, I will shoot, Smooth told him.

The car drove up side by side to their car and shot right in the driver’s side. Rickey lost control and crashed. Smooth jumped out to try and catch the guys, but he was too late. He managed to hit the back taillight as they sped off. Dammit! Smooth shouted. He went back to aid Rickey.

Make sure you take care of my streets, were the last words Rickey Roe spoke. Smooth closed his eyes and walked away. He couldn’t risk being caught at the scene. Once he made it to the house, he told the team what happened. They hated losing their boss, but was glad Smooth was there to take his place. The team was on edge. They still hadn’t found out who killed Roe. Word on the street was that Rickey was sleeping with a rival’s girl and that is what led to the shooting. However, no one could find the girl to confirm. Smooth stepped up to the plate and shocked the whole team when he made Jock his right hand man.

    William

Beep, beep, beep , was the sound of the truck being backed up to the warehouse. Smooth was about to receive his biggest score to date. This score would put him well over his normal limit. He would be able to reach more folks and branch outside of the Birmingham city limits. He was ready for his unapologetic take over. There was nothing in his way.

Hey Smooth, this is going to make us all some rich motherfuckers here, Jock commented as he helped unload the truck.

Yea, you right, man, you are so right. But you know I have been thinking about quitting this shit.

Jock laughed. He already knew that Smooth was bluffing. Every time they got a chance to expand, Smooth would have a come to Jesus moment and say he was quitting. Are you bluffing again?

Nah man, I’m for real this time. I have been scoping out my successor. That young kid Chozen, he seems to be one hell of a soldier. I wouldn’t mine pulling him up in rank.

Jock didn’t say a word. He knew exactly what Smooth meant. The whole crew was now on scene to help unload. They had everything from pure cocaine, marijuana, pills, to heroin and meth. Once the truck was clear, they transported the goods to Smooth’s house. They rarely left product at the warehouse in fear that they may one day get knocked. Besides, there was better security at his house.

When they arrived to the mansion, Smooth called his ladies down to do the rest. Smooth had his own assembly line going, set up full of women. He had them separated by their skin color. He utilized the black girls for cooking, Hispanics for packing, and white chicks for weighing and counting.

Y’all will be here all night or however long it takes to get it right. We have to have this shit prepped and ready to go by the end of the week. It is All-Star weekend and I want to be able to hit all of the in town guests. Smooth was direct with his orders and they all knew he meant business.

To ensure y’all get this shit done, I am leaving Jock in charge. He will stay close to make sure we meet the deadline. Jock, get your crew together and don’t let none of the bitches slack. Also, y’all don’t touch any of them. Jock nodded as he rounded a few armed men to guard the team of naked women. Alright team, I am out. Jock, you know to call me if you need to, but otherwise, hold it down.

Smooth had to hit the road. His sister was scheduled to come to visit him at his Atlanta home. It had been a while since he had seen her and he was excited to see his nephews. He made the two-hour drive to Atlanta. One thing about him was he didn’t deal where he laid his head. His empire was built all around the south, excluding his hometown Atlanta, Georgia.

As far as his family knew, he was a truck driver and that was all they needed to know. William, or Smooth as he was known on the streets, was a 33-year-old single man. He was tall and muscular, with a clean shaven head, and a neatly trimmed goatee surrounding his face. He always rocked the latest kicks, and rarely wore the same thing twice. Most of his shoes were custom made. Jordan would call him a week before anything was released and he would be rocking J’s before they even hit the stores. He made it his business to stay fresh and clean.

He was known as a ladies’ man, but he had yet to find that one woman to share his life with. When he got home, he realized how much he wanted a woman. He looked around his kitchen. I definitely need a woman to come in and cook in this new stainless steel kitchen I have. I never cook, he said as he started to clean up his mess.

Take-out boxes were everywhere, but the trash, where they were supposed to be. It took over almost 3 hours to get the house clean and when he was done, he was exhausted and hungry. He grabbed his keys and headed out to IHOP.

William was sitting at his table when his phone buzzed. He was thinking that it was Robyn, but was disappointed when he saw Crazy Hoe Alert pop up on his screen. He didn’t have time to play with Sheila today, so he sent her to voicemail.

Oh, so that’s how you do the woman you were supposed to marry? He looked up from his phone and in front of him, and there stood Sheila.

Disgust was written all over William’s face. She decided to invite herself to his table. When the waitress came, she ordered and told her to add her meal to his tab. Sheila, what are you doing?

I saw you sitting alone and thought you needed company, she said rubbing her belly. William noticed her pregnant belly and ignored it.

No, I was fine alone. Please leave, William tried to be polite.

I can’t, you ordered me food, so I have to be courteous and stay to eat it.

It was antics like these that made William really dislike Sheila. She always seemed to push her way into his life. It wasn’t that William didn’t find her attractive. Sheila was fine as hell. A little feisty red bone, couldn’t be no taller than 5-feet-5. She kept her hair cut short and neatly curled. But it was her attitude, bizarre behavior, and stalker tendencies that caused him to stay clear of her. The bitch was a raging lunatic.

So what have you been up to, besides missing me? she asked.

Sheila, I do not miss you. I wish you would leave my space. There was no being nice to her. William left before their food arrived, dropped a hundred-dollar bill on the table, and walked away leaving her sitting at the table. He checked the time, and saw it was almost time to pick up his sister from the airport.

    Sheila

Sheila sat back and watched William leave. She loved everything about him, but she knew that the feeling was not mutual. They had been kicking it for years, nothing serious. She always wanted more and he always wanted nothing but sex. No matter how much she gave him, she would still wake up the next morning alone.

She sat back and enjoyed her meal that William had paid for. She smiled because she knew that she had something up her sleeve that would connect them for the rest of their lives. Sheila rubbed her belly. You, little one, are going to help me get your daddy back.

After she finished her meal, she had to leave. It was time for her doctor’s appointment. While she was sitting
