Kapitel 1: Grundlegende Fakten
Die Stadt Rom soll 753 v. Chr. gegründet worden sein.
Die alte Legende erzählt, dass Romulus und Remus, Zwillinge, die die Söhne des Mars (des Kriegsgottes) waren, aufgrund einer Prophezeiung, dass sie ihren Großonkel Amulius stürzen würden, ausgesetzt wurden. Die Säuglinge wurden von einer Wölfin ernährt, bis ein Hirte, Faustulus, sie fand. Er nahm die Jungen als seine Söhne an und zog sie auf, bis sie erwachsen waren, woraufhin sie ihre Prophezeiung erfüllten und ihren Großonkel töteten. Danach beschlossen sie, eine Stadt zu gründen, waren sich aber über den Standort nicht einig und stritten sich, was dazu führte, dass Romulus seinen eigenen Bruder tötete, bevor er die Stadt Rom gründete.
Bis 45 v. Chr. wuchs die Stadt zur Römischen Republik heran. Seine Führer wurden fair gewählt und dienten für eine begrenzte Zeit. Es gab geschriebene Gesetze und eine Verfassung. Konzepte, auf denen demokratische Regierungen heute noch basieren.
Im Jahre 45 v. Chr. machte sich Julius Cäsar zum obersten Diktator und beendete die Republik. Im Jahre 27 v. Chr. erhielt Cäsar Augustus als erster den Titel eines Kaisers und so wurde das Römische Reich geboren. Der Hauptunterschied bestand darin, dass er die ultimative Macht innehatte, mit der Fähigkeit, die gewählte Regierung zu überstimmen.
Das Imperium wuchs, als seine Armeen die umliegenden Länder mit militärischer Präzision eroberten. An seinem Höhepunkt soll das Römische Reich ein Fünftel aller Menschen
