    Chapter One

Blossom stepped out of the crystalline water onto the beach and sat on a rock allowing the rays of the sun to dry her naked body. She lifted her head and raised her hands. Goddess of the sun and light, will I ever meet my prince? Shine your light upon me? Send me a sign?

She dug her toes into the warm sand, watching the fine silica drift between her toes and sighed. It wasn’t the first time she had made that particular entreaty, but the goddess never answered. Her pleas for a prince fell on deaf ears.

A soft humming above her disturbed the silence. Annoyed, she peered up at the pastel-colored sky to find the source. A tiny golden dot appeared. It grew bigger until it was as large as a child’s ball. Slowly, it drifted down to hover in front of her, and a soft feminine voice resonated throughout the sacred hollow.

I am Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. Child, I have heard your pleas. Your wish has been granted. But it will not be fulfilled easily. You will need to fight for it. Your task is important and will be fraught with danger.

Blossom’s heart sped up as the sphere descended into her outheld hands. It was so beautiful. The round ball almost felt as if it pulsed with life. She gazed at the gorgeous ethereal amber globe resting on her palms and felt its power radiating throughout her body. What did it mean? What was she supposed to do with this gift?

Setting the orb gently on the silvery sand at the edge of the water, she picked up her gold-colored robes and draped them around her, then bent to pick up the globe again. It was so light, it rested easily on one hand. Maybe she should go back to the palace and consult with Maroga, the royal sorcerer.

No, Blossom. No one but you can see or touch the sphere of love. The gods have allowed me to send it to you. Cherish it, protect it, and wait. It will show you the way and lead you to your wish.

She often spoke with the goddesses, but this was the first time the goddess of love had spoken to her. Peering at the sphere, unsure of what she was to do with it, she asked, What am I supposed to do now? Maybe you can show me?

The globe warmed, began to glow brightly, and a soft humming grew louder until it vibrated throughout the hollow. A tall oval slowly took shape near the edge of the water. Its shimmering metal was decorated with symbols and green carvings of some creatures on the one side, the other side was a brilliant blue with more shiny symbols. Its center showed her an image of a distant, picturesque waterfall.

Behold the planet Venus and the Silken Veil Falls. Step through the portal to find the answers you seek and the fulfillment of all that you wish for. The Silken Veil Falls
