"T hose who take the Raid seriously start training as soon the last one ends, from Halloween to Halloween. Training hard both mentally and physically, experienced raiders know that the Pumpkin will test their limits and then some."

Edward pulled himself up on the bar. It had seemed impossible for him a year ago, pulling himself up like this.

Now he could do it fifty times in a row.

His training regimen had tightened up his arms, his waist, his legs. He had gained some muscle definition, though not much to look at, he was still considered scrawny.

But he needed to train himself hard.

He had witnessed first-hand the difficulties inside the Pumpkin, during the raid. True, the challenges had been somewhat easy for him on the first and second level and required more brains than brawn, but they still required lots of running, tumbling about, pulling himself up in nooks and crannies, and generally a good, fit body.

He gave himself one day of revelry, after the raid. One day of rest, of playing video games all day, of sodas and junk food. It wasn't a celebration, his big brother was still missing. And from the looks of it, he was forever gone in the Pumpkin, never to be seen again.

No one had ever returned from the unlucky 1-in-a-thousand that fell during the raid. No one. Speculation about what happened to them varied from very logical, abducted by aliens, used as fertiliser, etc, to the very outlandish, they were hooked up to a simulation, using their fears to power up the nightmare that was the Raid, cut up and sliced in thin little pieces then put back together as monsters, and more stuff like that.

Ed didn't know. He didn't wanna think about it. All he knew was that he was the man of the house now, and he needed to step up. There was no more falling back to his big brother, who somehow managed to provide
