Jake's Quest For The Five Stones - Hanit Benbassat

There were many people who supported me during the journey of writing this book.

Many people devoted hours of their lives to this story, and I will be forever grateful to them. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping me to write and continually improve this book. You know who you are.

I want to thank my husband and my three kids who supported and encouraged me in spite of all the time it took me away from them.

Special thanks to Petro for the beautiful illustrations and the patience he showed working with me.

Deep gratitude to Michal and Asaf Lev HaAri and Nancy Robbins for supporting me along the way and for helping me choose the best crystals for this book and the crystals guide workbook.

And of course, my gratitude goes to my spectacular launch team.

    Thank you.

    Chapter 1

Jake remembered the moment like it was yesterday, the moment he refused to join the rest of the elf fellows from his village of Keeponia in the war against the goblins from the village of Nordia. Keeponia was indeed legendary. It had a beautiful horizon surrounded with mountains on one side and tall trees on another. Just after those trees was the forest that led all the way to the most revered mountain, Nindero Mountain.

Stories have been told of elves going to that mountain to pay obeisance to the gods, but this did not happen often, and it was mostly the elder elves that went. Down here in Keeponia it was mostly sunny. There was warmth all around, and everyone loved the feel on their skin. The elves surrounded their houses with colorful flowers. They invested and developed their village to be a central place of trade that the elves were very successful in. They had a shared agricultural landscape, and they took produce to the market every week. This market was very popular and had consumers coming from neighboring villages twice each month. It was the most important uniting factor in all the region, and Keeponia was incredibly proud of it. The elves were dedicated workers and had built the market and its goodwill themselves.

This dedication was the factor that the goblins had missed. Nordia was cold and seemed to always be in winter. Summer was like a vague idea because the goblins experienced it only two months in a year. But they were all used to the cold. They lived on a hill just below the mountains that surrounded Keeponia.

Nordia was beautiful with rocky roads all around. At the time when there was peace, the goblins took their wares to Keeponia on market day and made lots of sales, mostly from visitors from other neighboring villages. The goblins were less successful in trade. They were mostly artisans, but had very few that patronized them. Most of the sales they made were at the Keeponia market, and they often wondered why they did not have visitors coming to Nordia to buy their goods. They thought the elves were privy to a secret that they were yet to be aware of.

The goblins loved power, and the easiest route to success would be for them to control the elves and the land of Keeponia. The elder goblins led the raid and launched an attack where they captured the first elves and took them as slaves. The elves would not tolerate this and started fighting back immediately. At times the elves successfully saved their fellow elves who were captured by the goblins, but sometimes they couldn’t. The war was constant, so they always needed to protect their village.

The elves that were captured were taken to Nordia to till the ground and to use their knowledge to give Nordia commercial success. But now, the goblins wanted Keeponia. Capturing elves as slaves was not going to achieve the desired breakthrough. They wanted to add the mountains to their own land and to rule over the elves.

Of course, the elves would not take this. They were stubborn and trained every young elf in the techniques of battle. Relations with the goblins had also ended since the attack, and by the time Jake was five years old, the goblins were an official enemy living within a short distance of the elves. Talking to a goblin was an official crime. They no longer shared the market as the goblins were not welcome there.

Jake had watched this for years, and now that he was grown, he had a different opinion than his family and fellow elves, which he tried to stick to. It did not take long for him to find that he was all alone in his thinking.

Now, the goblins had attacked once again, and Jake was not ready to join the war. The night before, his brothers had gone to fight without him, and his father, Lorsan, had been infuriated. He did not want such behavior from an elf that he fathered. He had not behaved in such an insolent manner in his youth and would not tolerate such from his son.

Lorsan had summoned Jake to the sitting room one morning to
