Angela M. Brown believes that spending quality time alone with God can catapult our lives in such an extraordinary way that it is beyond our imagination. Rejected from the womb by her biological father, turned off from the church at the tender age of five or six years old, never having heard the message of the Gospel nor the name of Jesus, and growing up in an abusive household, Angela longed for peace and freedom and maintained a heart of forgiveness.  At the age of fifteen, she came to know the Lord Jesus and has been engaged in an intimate relationship with Him ever since despite a lot of heartaches. Chapter One

THE SECRET PLACE

What is The Secret Place ? Well, let’s break this down a little bit. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary , the word secret means: designed to elude observation or detection; remote from human frequentation or notice: SECLUDED; kept from knowledge or view: HIDDEN; marked by the habit of discretion: CLOSEMOUTHED; working with hidden aims or methods: UNDERCOVER; conducted in secret; not acknowledged; UNAVOWED: not affirmed, mentioned, or declared.1  Now, the place, that is up to you.

The Secret Place is a special place, a dedicated place where you go to be alone with God, your heavenly Father, your Creator. This is a place established by you to meet with, pray to, fellowship with, talk with, spend quality time in His Word, praise, worship, sing to, love on, and listen to and for God’s voice.  The Secret Place is a place to be alone and intimate with God the Father, without distractions; away from all the noise.  Yes, of course, we can spend time with God anywhere, even in public. Yes, we can talk with, fellowship with, and pray to God at any point in the day, even while driving, working, doing chores, etc.  However, there is no place like The Secret Place, where it’s just you and God, alone and free of distractions. It’s intimate and totally personal.

The Secret Place is a private place free of distractions where you can be completely vulnerable with God, without fear or concern of rejection, judgment, criticism, or condemnation. It’s a place where you can encounter God’s presence in an intimate way that you can’t in public. The Secret Place is a place and time for just the two of you to fellowship and spend quality time alone together. No one can take your place in The Secret Place...it’s you and God alone with each other. Simply put, The Secret Place is a special, intimate date with the Lover of your soul, who should be your First Love. This place should be available to you so you can not only fellowship, pray, worship, praise, and talk with God, but take time and listen to and for God to speak to you.  Yes, God does speak but are we taking the time to listen for and to Him. Your time in The Secret Place should be even more intimate than your private, one on one time with your spouse, best friend, colleague, or other family members.

The Secret Place is a place where you pursue God’s presence. It’s the place where you make the effort to be alone with your Father and to encounter Him in the most dependent and intimate way possible.  That’s where we seek His face first and foremost and not His hand. As we truly seek God’s face and pursue His presence, we will see an undeniable transformation take place in our lives. We will become so intimate with the Father that we will begin to carry His presence and act more like Jesus. We’ll have such a love affair with Him, that our hearts are transformed from our own agendas to God’s agendas.
