Paper Flower Note Cards - Emiko Yamamoto

    POP-UP CARDS

When you open up these pop-up cards, a beautiful, voluptuous three-dimensional flower opens up. You can almost hear the happy exclamations these cards will elicit when they are opened up.

The closer you look, the more real these beautifully finished flowers appear.

    ROSE POP-UP CARD

Each petal is beautiful in this Rose Pop-Up Card. The key is to make the petals on the left and right separately, and glue them together securely in the middle. Make the roses in the recipient’s favorite colors!

For instructions, see page 48. The patterns are on page 66.

Recreate the lively look of a peony flower in full bloom by curling the petals.

    PEONY POP-UP CARD

The multilayered, thin, wavy petals of a peony flower are so beautiful. If you make these peonies using light pastel-colored paper, their daintiness will be emphasized. Aside from the different petal shapes, the construction of this card is the same as for the Rose Pop-Up Card.

For instructions, see page 51. The patterns are on page 67.

Gazing at this elegant flower really soothes the soul.

    WATER LILY POP-UP CARD

This recreates the look of a water lily in full bloom on a calm, smooth pond. Cut the center part of the flower into a fine fringe to give it texture and a more realistic look. The placement of the leaves in relation to the flower is up to you.

For instructions, see page 51. The patterns are on page 65.

Combining colors in the same family really seems to emphasize the three-dimensionality of the flower.

    CARNATION POP-UP CARD

This card is constructed by creating the flower petals in four parts and then gluing the top and bottom together. The key is to crease the petals well when folding up the card. The irregular edges of the petals don’t have to be cut to exactly conform to the pattern.

For instructions, see page 52. The patterns are on page 68.

A spring breeze seems to waft out of this card when it’s opened.

    DANDELION POP-UP CARD

I wanted to make a pop-up card of a humble, pretty little dandelion flower. By adding the unmistakable leaves, the round, charming shape of the dandelion flower is emphasized. This card is made in the same way as the Carnation Pop-Up Card.

For instructions, see page 52. The patterns are on page 68.

This blossom is also gorgeous when made by using a single color for the sepals.

    HYDRANGEA POP-UP CARD

By making many small sepals (the flower-like objects) and putting them together in a circle, you can really emphasize the three-dimensional pop-up aspect of this card. The key to making the flower look voluminous yet delicate is to just glue the parts that would naturally come into contact, rather than applying glue heavily everywhere.

For instructions, see page 53. The patterns are on page 69.

Glue the flower cores into the middle of the petals.

    COSMOS BOUQUET POP-UP CARD

This card has a bouquet of cosmos flowers of different colors, and is perfect for giving on a festive occasion. The flowers can get bulky when the card is folded, so pay attention to their placement when you glue them.

For instructions, see page 54. The patterns are on page 69.

    DECORATION CARDS

Decoration cards are made by creating a three-dimensional flower and adhering it to the outside of a card. All of the flowers here are much easier to make than they appear, so don’t
