About The Author
The Strangest Call
As Buck’s patrol car pulled into the Schlosser’s ranch he outed his cigarette in his make shift ash tray in the cup holder between the seats. Patrick and Abigail were already standing on their front porch in anticipation of his arrival. Buck turned the car off and stepped out with a smile, and a tip of his hat.
Well took ya long enough to get out here.
Patrick said.
Well I’m sorry Pat but I was kinda busy u know? There’s been a string of strange happenings all throughout our area. Hell something’s been going from Ranch to Ranch eating everything but the god damn crops.
Yeah I heard. The McClanahan’s lost four pigs right?
Buck took his hat off and scratched his head, before looking up at his friend.
What the hell did you call for anyway Pat? Don’t look like it’s no emergency out here. What the hell you got your shotgun for?
Patrick unslung his shotgun from over his shoulder and cocked it. To be honest with ya Buck I been hearing things outside for the past three nights. Heck Abigail said she’s been hearing it too. In fact only person that don’t hear it is that brick headed son of mine, boy could sleep through a damn tornado I bet.
Buck chuckled and shifted his focus to Abigail who up to now had been extremely quiet, which was very unlike her. She was usually a very vibrant and lively girl, but then it was three o’clock in the morning. You good ol girl?
Buck asked.
Yeah just tired and creeped out Buck. I wish I knew what was out here making that god awful noise.
Abigail responded while tightening her hand stitched Native American throw blanket around her.
Yeah, whatever it is out here ain’t no critter I’m familiar with Buck and that’s the truth.
Patrick chimed in.
Buck kept staring at Abigail for a few moments and then turned and scanned around the ranch before turning back to Patrick.
Well, I’m assuming you heard something tonight out here, and that’s why you called?
Yep.
Patrick retorted as he spit a glob of Copenhagen juice onto
