Chapter Twelve
When the motorcycle came to a stop, Judas hopped off and removed his helmet. Okay, stud. You take it from here.
Stride nodded. Judas didn’t have to explain. He already knew—they were driving straight to Hell.
He straddled the bike. Judas stood there for a moment looking at him. Stride had donned his dark leggings and long black leather coat for the journey. Silver studs lined his tall black boots, matching the silver chains that hung from the lapels of his coat.
The jewellery wasn’t quite the thirty pieces of silver that Judas had famously accepted in exchange for betraying Christ, but he could see by the dazed look in the other’s eyes that he’d made an impression.
He saw the glint of the sword handle peeking out from a holster at Judas’ hip, and smiled. They were both armed and prepared for battle.
Are you getting back on any time soon or what?
Stride raised an eyebrow.
You have no idea what an image you strike on that bike, do you, Stride? I don’t know whether to run from you or fall into bed with you.
It would help, Judas, if you concentrated on the task at hand.
Judas nodded, giving Stride a once-over. Easier said than done. I do have my weaknesses…in case you didn’t know.
He reached out and touched one of the silver chains.
Well…
He cleared his throat and hopped on the back of the bike. Now I know why we don’t need an army.
Stride revved the motor. Asb’el is running things now. He is kind of the interim leader. We’ll go to him first.
The nose of the bike reared up, the front wheel leaving the ground. It propelled through the air like a jet.
They were travelling faster than Judas had ever gone on this thing. Stride could tell just by reading the man’s thoughts. Judas held on to Stride’s hips a little tighter.
Stride read the alleged fallen apostle’s thoughts like tickertape running through his mind…
It’s kind of nice holding on to him. The guy has a killer body—hard and muscled. I could get used to this…
"Don’t get too used to it. And you can take your hand off my thigh unless you want to be known as Judas, the one-armed warrior for God."
Funny.
Judas removed his hand and continued to converse with Stride in his head. "Might not be so bad. Look what losing his head did for John the Baptist. That bastard’s been playing the sympathy card for aeons! I could do with an image overhaul."
Stride glared at the hand that began roaming his body again. You need an image overhaul?
Of course I do! I saw the look of shock on your face when you saw me. Everyone expects me to be rotting in Hell.
Judas dropped his hand for the second time.
Stride smiled. Hmmm…well, it seems my suggestion worked.
I’d like to keep my arm. I have a feeling losing it won’t get me much sympathy.
Good choice.
The bike dropped closer to the ground, hurtling through a dark tunnel. They could smell the burning flesh, feel the heat.
Judas retched. Good God, pardon the pun. You lived here?
Stride only laughed—a deep throaty laugh that, in spite of his switching sides, probably sounded downright devilish.
We’re going to meet resistance soon, aren’t we?
You bet,
Stride shouted
