Mars Ascending - Mick Banovic
JL
Rock of ages
Our modern day sages
We hang on to your every word
Even what is unheard
Some give us glitz, others glamour
You strip away our armour
But still we are ever so keen
Witnesses to the unseen
You were standing
At your front door
Its surreal to think you might live
In a cottage on the north shore
We all miss you
Though the years come and go
All the kids still want to
Bask in your glow
You left us unprepared
From your gilded cage
Aimlessly enduring
Killing continues to rage
Struggling to understand
Reasons of the insane
Fill the poison chalice
Prize was your fame
Change is hard
Peace elusive
Can you
Imagine
A Girl
Without a word
Or a single touch
Meaning is clear
Intent not so much
Our worlds
Collide and repel
As hearts drink
From this forbidden well
I’ve seen you shine
I’ve seen you slumber
Your despair
And your hunger
You never looked for me
Despite what we shared
Your indifference
I wonder if you ever cared
Your mind howls
Stand firm I must
With no regrets, or recoil
Still there is no trust
A bitter honey
Flows from this hive
Heart long been dead
And yet you are alive
Story’s over
Day is done
No four leaf clover
No ones won
I
I am
I am not
I think
I create
I know it true
Lies will bind ties
Elusive key
Mystery are we
Alone again
Reasons or not
Who can tell
What we have forgot
Is man born
Just to die
Is life’s scorn
Just so tears we cry
We run this race
To the finish line
There is no disgrace
To resign
Breath the air
From upon this rock
Fill your lungs
Toast the hemlock
Time is now
Words have lost their meaning
Life’s slipping away
There is no more feeling
Bees
Waiting on the cusp
Watching the preparations
All the bees are buzzing
Heading to their destinations
Kids with endless energy abound
Others barely make sound
Some are gold adorned
They’re almost asleep, so bored
Thunder from afar
A sound not a whisper
Courage in their chest
Soldiers weapon a painful blister
Bees in flight a wondrous sight
Packed like their fishy cousin
Above the cloud they reach the light
Some alone others by the dozen
Some bees are confused
And argue with a turtle
They may end up bruised
Life can be brutal
Other bees fly
