Chapter 1
There was a slight chill crisp in the air as it spoke of the approaching season. Something magical about the season lingered and there was no denying it. It was a time when all dreams seemed to come true and it brought out the child in all of us. In the center of town, the tall balsam pine stood tall, waiting for the children to come and adorn it with festive decorations and candles. Kayleen’s day started before sunrise, when she was in charge of making breakfast for the visitors amongst other services. Widow Dade demanded a well-organized inn and everything was to be according to her rules, right down to the fresh flowers on the dining room tables, during breakfast and supper every day. It was about the time of her seventeenth
