    About the Author

    Chapter 1

There was a slight chill crisp in the air as it spoke of the approaching season. Something magical about the season lingered and there was no denying it. It was a time when all dreams seemed to come true and it brought out the child in all of us. In the center of town, the tall balsam pine stood tall, waiting for the children to come and adorn it with festive decorations and candles. The holly wreaths and garlands seemed to encircle the entire town square. It was only four years ago that the quiet little town welcomed Kayleen Morrison as the future bride of Reb Braxton. Taking in the child, the court was obliged to give the widow a monthly fee for the young girl’s upkeep since she was now considered her ward. She promised to raise her properly and, in her mind, she was compassionate. But, having Kayleen at the inn meant having a maid run the entire inn thereby giving more time for the widow to enjoy herself. After all, the widow was not an old woman and did want remarry one day. Kayleen’s day started before sunrise, when she was in charge of making breakfast for the visitors amongst other services. Widow Dade demanded a well-organized inn and everything was to be according to her rules, right down to the fresh flowers on the dining room tables, during breakfast and supper every day. It was about the time of her seventeenth
