Slices of a Starchild's Life: Volume 2

About this ebook
The inspiration for the urban fantasy series, Starchild’s Fire, we can find many of the characters featured in these works exploring this town and universe in the novels.
Volume two in the slice of life series, we again go on adventures with the starchild, Val, as they once more explore the absolutely typical town they call home. Nothing strange going on in a hometown in the middle of nowhere. A place with less direct sunlight than a rainy day, and with a forest that contains creatures of myths. Plus the ocean remains a great location to dip your toes in the water. As long as you stay behind the net so knowledge-hungry mermaids don't drag you beyond the drop-off.
Still a land of ordinary magic and monsters, the shapeshifter will meet a werehyena whose life they save and fight to not repay for such a friendly deed; befriend a kind immortal with an affection for jewels and living in an isolated cabin in the woods; and relax with intergalactic friends on a bench in the park on a quiet afternoon. But with a love of the tranquil life and making new acquaintances wherever they go, these are just another day for Val. A gentle smile always on their face as they’ve had for the last few decades no matter the situation. After all, aren’t all towns like this?
SR Brown
Author SR Brown writes fiction inspired by a caffeine-fueled muse and childhood of reading in the dark after lights out. A proud LGBTQA author, Brown enjoys to include characters with all kinds of lives and from various backgrounds in any walk of life. Tales range from fun and sweet characters going on adventures in town to a stranger holding out their hand promising adventure, but both usually leads to something much darker. Battered and bruised by the end, most come out alive. Unlike Brown, if placed in most written about situations. But they may stand a chance having fought the darkness of a narrow flight of stairs and faced the shadow people that often visit at night. They are wonderful at suggesting ideas, but never subtle in entering the door.

About the Author
Blind Luck
It's almost midnight when I wake up and can't understand why. Half an hour later I still am. No one else awake and the night young, time for a stroll. A pair of jeans and a sweater pulled on, I close the front door and head down the street.
I explore the town for a while, roaming the mostly empty streets as I hear stomping in the distance and the flap of wings overhead. The frigid air and quiet make the streets alien in the moonlight, the only sound the same as during the day being rubber soles on the concrete. A nice change from the daytime.
Why don't I do this more?
The store windows show the streetlights, making my reflection harder to see. Made worse by a strong breeze blowing hair in my face. Cold seeps to my core, forcing me to pull up my hood, each finger finding shelter in long sleeves.
A sharp turn around a corner protects me from the chill. And stumble upon a gang of the blind by an alley. I stay by the edge of the building, my stomach by my knees. My heart in my throat, I grit my teeth so it doesn't escape. Taking a couple steps backward as they face me. Cold claws go down my spine, their eyes in my direction, as if staring. They don't look right at me, but that somehow makes it worse.
What should I do? Can I run? Should I talk to them? Do they want something? Am I making them wonder the same thing?
There's one way to find out...
Hello?
I say, hands behind my back.
Who's there?
calls a larger man that stands the closest to me, his white cane clicking on the sidewalk when he turns.
